A mobile home burned early Wednesday morning in the 1600 block of Goodwin Avenue in Victoria. No one was home when the fire started.

An early morning fire that destroyed a Victoria home Wednesday is being investigated as a possible arson, said police Sgt. Jeff Strauss of the Victoria Police Department.

The home in the 1600 block of East Goodwin Avenue caught fire about 3:45 a.m. and was reported by an employee of a nearby business, said Victoria Fire Marshal Tom Legler.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, Legler said.

Flames were coming out of several windows of the home when firefighters arrived. No one was home at the time, and there were no reported injuries.

With the exception of one bedroom, the house was damaged by fire, Legler said. The bedroom was damaged by smoke, but some of the belongings were considered salvageable.

Tenants rent the home from the estate of Mildred Gillar, according to the Victoria Central Appraisal District. Lesa Charbula, of Inez, is listed as the contact.

Attempts to reach Charbula on Wednesday were unsuccessful.

Legler said he sent samples to a laboratory, and he was in the process of locating people to be interviewed. Whether the property was insured was not available.
