Fire department dedicates truck in honor of retired captain
The Victoria Fire Department recently dedicated and placed its newest ladder truck, Quint 1, into service and dedicated it in honor of retired Victoria Fire Department Capt. Robert Hajek. A plaque was added to the truck to recognize his dedicated service and leadership. It will serve as a visual reminder to all who ride in this truck to be thankful, appreciative and never forget those who came and served before them. In dedicating the truck, Victoria Fire Chief Taner Drake said, "Capt. Hajek always operated with the highest integrity and respect. He was always open-minded and knowledgeable in all aspects of the job. He always said he learned something every day, and it didn't matter if you only had two days on the job - he would listen to what you had to say. Capt. Hajek was the kind of leader that led by example, was very easy to talk to and showed care and compassion to all. He is missed by those who had the pleasure to work with him." Hajek began his 32-year career with the Victoria Fire Department on Sept. 27, 1972, and retired as a captain in November 2004.
