The winning hairstyle is a beautiful twisted braid to keep Ashley Green's hair out of the way when she reaches the dance floor. The braid is known as the HD Special Beauty Bash by Hair Dimensions.
The winning dress has a black-and-red color combination with a romantic print and crescent hem. When Ashley tried this one on, she said to the camera, "Please, JR, pick this one." JR is Ashley's longtime theater friend and date to this year's Victoria West High School prom.
The winning makeup look uses Urban Decay for her base, the lashes are Ardell natural demis, and for her eye makeup, Cantu used the Naked2 Palette, also from Urban Decay, with the colors Booty Call, YDK and Busted. The lip liner, also by Urban Decay, Cantu used is called Rush, and the lipstick used was Wine Room by Wet 'n' Wild. For her lip gloss, Cantu used Pink Lemonade by E.L.F., and for Green's blush, Cantu used Rosy Outlook by MAC Cosmetics.
Ashley Green giggled as she imagined the look on her prom date's face when he comes to pick her up for the big day.
Green, a Victoria West High School senior with Down Syndrome, was voted this year's Prom Princess by Victoria Advocate readers.
Saturday is her prom.
"JR is going to love the dress; it's red and black," Green, 20, said. "Everyone's excited."
At Regal Jewelers in the Victoria Mall, Green gravitated toward a crystal teardrop silver chain necklace, said her mother, Varchia Green.
"It's very pretty," her mother said. "As soon as she saw that one, she picked it."
As of Thursday afternoon, Victoria West bookkeeper Melissa Rodriguez said 235 prom tickets, priced at $25 each, have been sold. She is expecting more.
The senior class includes 315 students, said Victoria West Principal Debbie Crick.
Green said she will dine at the PumpHouse Riverside Restaurant and Bar with her date, Manuel Castillo Jr., who goes by JR, another student and two of her teachers before prom Saturday evening.
At the request of her daughter's date, the prom couple will be posing for photos by the gazebo in the downtown square of Victoria, her mother said.
"A lot of our family are going to be here this weekend to see her on Saturday," she said. "After prom ends, I'm sure we'll stay up together and recap the night."
The Victoria West prom will be at the Spring Creek Place Event Center from 8 p.m. until midnight.
This year's theme, A Night in Paradise, will feature an elegant beach scene, said Denys McCarter, Victoria West English teacher and prom coordinator.
Green is one of 10 Victoria West students nominated for Prom Court, McCarter said.
"Prom is like a fairy tale for these young ladies," McCarter said. "The boys have gone above and beyond when asking the girls out."
