Two people were arrested Friday morning after officers chased them through Cuero.
Cuero police officers stopped a gray Ford F-150 about 12:30 a.m. that matched the description of a potentially reckless driver entering DeWitt County from Gonzales County on U.S. Highway 183, according to a news release from the Cuero Police Department.
Once pulled over, officers identified the driver of the truck as Jerome Flores, 30, of Yoakum, and passenger Erica Cruz, 29, of Del Valle.
Officers detected a strong smell of marijuana coming from the truck and requested consent to search the vehicle, at which time Flores placed the vehicle in gear and attempted to elude officers.
Officers pursued the vehicle south on Highway 183 to Farm-to-Market Road 237 then west toward Yorktown and onto Callahan Road before ending the chase in the 2500 block of Callahan Road, according to the news release.
Flores and Cruz were arrested.
Flores was charged with tampering with and fabricating physical evidence, possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces, evading arrest detention with a vehicle and resisting arrest, search or transport.
Cruz was charged with possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces, tampering with and fabricating physical evidence. She has since been released from jail.
