Gonzales city officials and community leaders joined Victoria College administrators, faculty and staff in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the VC Gonzales Center and Gonzales Workforce Training Center. The building that now houses the Training Center was vacant for many years until the city of Gonzales and the Gonzales Economic Development Corp. acquired the property to allow Victoria College to create a building trades academy. The Training Center includes an open bay area, two classrooms, a construction training classroom and 16 welding booths. Thirty-one students have enrolled in core construction classes and welding this past year, and many additional courses have been scheduled for the fall semester. VC and Gonzales High School are collaborating to offer welding I and II to high school seniors next year. "I sincerely appreciate the vision and support the local community has given toward the establishment of the Gonzales Workforce Training Center," said Jackie Mikesh, VC Gonzales Center manager. "Local resources combined with construction labor completed by the talented Victoria College construction crew led to the creation of an amazing facility that will positively impact economic development in the Gonzales area for generations to come."
