Local Veterans Administration debunks cartoon

Editor, the Advocate:

The political cartoon in the May 5 paper shows a Veterans Administration waiting room with old men with cobwebs linking them to their chairs. I'm not sure if this is to portray the local clinic or just the VA in general.

I can certainly speak for the local clinic. My longest wait has been 15 minutes, but I am usually seen before my appointed time. I walked into the local VA clinic for the first time in January 2011 after 44 years of serious problems and what my wife described as a serious train wreck. I had stayed away simply because of incredibly stupid movies, political cartoons and their poor portrayal of the VA.

Locally, the VA has done everything they can for me in a very caring, nurturing way. My wife says at this rate of improvement, she might even allow me out into the general public soon.
