Matagorda County sheriff's deputy shooting under investigation by Texas Rangers
Details of a shooting involving a Matagorda County Sheriff's Office deputy have been released.
Sgt. Matt Mireles responded a call about a stolen vehicle in Bay City about 1:47 a.m. Friday. Mireles found the vehicle parked on state Highway 60, about 2 miles south of Farm-to-Market 2668, according to a news release from Sgt. James Orr of the Matagorda County Sheriff's Office.
Upon Mireles' arrival, Darrein Sean Parks, 21, of Bay City, got out of the vehicle and attacked Mireles, attempting to take control of his weapons, Orr wrote.
Mireles fired his gun, injuring Parks, according to the news release.
Parks was transported to Matagorda Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. He was listed in stable condition Monday.
Mireles was treated for his injuries at Matagorda Regional Medical Center and then released.
The Texas Rangers is investigating the shooting. Mireles has been placed on administrative leave, which is routine during an investigation involving a deputy, until the investigation is completed, according to the news release.
