Prospective and current olive growers will have an opportunity to learn about the opportunities and challenges of growing olives in a special orchard management training May 29.

The program is sponsored by the Texas Olive Oil Council, which recently coordinated an educational training in California for a small contingency of Texas olive growers, AgriLife specialists and county agents. Participants in the May 29 program in Victoria will have an opportunity to hear what was observed on the California tour.
Meeting participants will also visit a new high-density olive orchard near Victoria being planted by Texas Olive Ranch, which has additional production orchards in the Carrizo Springs area.
Registration fee is $20 per person. The event will be at the Victoria Educational Gardens Pavilion, 283 Bachelor Drive, located at the Victoria Regional Airport across from the air control tower.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. May 29, and the educational program starts at 9 a.m.
Two continuing education units (one general, one integrated pest management) are being offered for Texas Department of Agriculture private, commercial and noncommercial licensed pesticide applicators. Persons interested in attending are asked to contact the Victoria County Extension Office to preregister to assist with meal planning by calling 361-575-4581 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
