H-E-B and the city of Victoria crossed paths in June 1934, and they will mark their 80th anniversary together at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the H-E-B Plus! store, 6106 N. Navarro St.
H-E-B opened its first store in Victoria back then, and it was remodeled in 1950 to add air conditioning, according to an H-E-B news release.
Throughout the years, stores have closed and opened at new locations along Main and North streets and Rio Grande Street back in 2001.
The H-E-B Plus! store opened in November 2006. It was once in the North Cross Center, also on North Navarro Street.
The monthlong anniversary celebration will include:
In-store sweepstakes - opportunity for customers to win groceries for a year
Shopping sprees at H-E-B Plus! and H-E-B Rio Grande
Special in-store coupons with savings on groceries
Victoria Advocate partners with H-E-B for an essay contest
Additional ad items featured in Victoria Advocate
Product promotions during the next 30 days highlighting H-E-B items
Radio stations at H-E-B will feature special in-store offers on food items
