Employee pay raises and a proposed operating budget will be discussed at the Victoria school district board meeting Thursday.
The proposed pay raises for teachers range between $1,500 and $1,700, depending on years of experience - making starting pay $43,100 for first-year teachers, said Diane Boyett, VISD communications director.
"We're doing this so we can be more competitive," Boyett said. "We won't be beating out major suburban districts, but we need to maintain our edge on salaries in this area."
The substitute pay rate remains the same as last year at $95 per day for substitutes with valid teaching certificates and $75 per day for substitutes with a bachelor's or master's degree.
All administrative employees would receive a general increase of $1,500 under the proposed agenda item.
Paraprofessional and classified employees would receive an increase of 60 cents an hour, 7 cents more than last year's raise.
During the meeting, trustees also will hear a presentation about the proposed general operating budget.
"What the board will be seeing are very preliminary numbers," Boyett said. "Those will change as more information from our final Average Daily Attendance count for the year and property values become available."
