US 87 crash sends 5 to the hospital (w/video)

Jeremy Allen Wanjura, 17, of Cuero, was driving east Saturday in a 2007 Chevrolet pickup, right, on Wood Hi Road when he failed to yield to a pickup traveling north on U.S. Highway 87. The crash sent 5 people to Citizens Medical Center.

One adult and four children were transported to Citizens Medical Center after a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 87 at WoodHi Road, said Department of Public Safety Trooper Reuben San Miguel.

Jeremy Allen Wanjura, 17, of Cuero, was driving east about 4:45 p.m. Saturday in a 2007 Chevrolet pickup on WoodHi Road when he failed to yield to a pickup traveling north on U.S. Highway 87.

Wanjura slammed into the driver's side of a 2014 Chevrolet truck driven by Elsa Leticia Prado, 37, of Victoria. The truck slid into the grassy ditch on the west side of the highway. Prado and four children, ages 5 to 12, were transported to Citizens Medical Center. Their injuries were not life-threatening, said San Miguel.

Wanjura was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way.
