I agree that royalty collectors pay taxes. However, when one thinks about how things actually work it is hard not to reason with the argument to let the ones with more pay more. This is biblical. Flat taxes do arrive at larges sums of taxes on wealthier individuals, but analysis also shows that wealthier individuals utilize govt. infrastructure and the like at greater rate than lower classes. The wealthy do benefit more, thus should pay more.
Many, if not most or all, royalty collectors have been big beneficiaries of the govt. Land owners generally pay a much lower rate for Ag Exempt, which all the small and city property owners take up the slack. Those ancestors that first settled and came soon after and were around during hard times received more food stamps and govt assistance than did the regular Joe in town. The farmer and rancher also benefited when the govt. slaughtered animals and burned fields to keep prices up for them during hard times. Also, the govt. helps with crop insurance and drought payments and the like. It is just really hard to see those "hard working, honest people" end up with a windfall when they are wards of the state too.
The govt. has been picking winners and losers from the get go. The everyday, working Joe has had the weight of the world on him from the start. He has to pay for the leeches at the bottom that don't work or contribute to the tax roll, the illegals with no loyalty to the US, the many foreign countries in which the US contributes foreign aid(buyouts), the big banks that "need" bailouts, the military to police the world for big business, and the parasites that pay capital gains and carried interest that he must take up the slack. The everyday Joe is tired and needs some relief.
