Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The primary purpose for government is to protect innocent human life and my opponent votes for abortion every year and expects you to pay for it. Liberty - with responsibility - and the pursuit of happiness - with personal responsibility - are only possible after one has been granted life. Let's make sure that the child is born first and then we can educate them. I also strongly support protecting the sanctity of marriage of one man and one woman -which my opponent consistently votes against - and I support freedom of religion, not freedom from religion: I support prayer for divine safety and protection at high school football games (which my opponent voted against), and I strongly support the right of we the people to keep and bear arms.
I proudly served for six years in the U.S. Navy (USS Bluefish, SSN-675, and USS L.Y.Spear, AS-36), and I will always honor and support our brave men and women in uniform and our veterans.
The No. 1 issue heading into the final homestretch of this campaign by far is the economy and the price of gasoline at the pump. The latter greatly affects the former as the cost to transport food and durable goods is greatly increased. The Democrats promised in 2006 to lower the price of gas, which was close to $2 a gallon in October 2006, and they have managed to double that cost to over $4 a gallon...

In Congress, I have been able to improve the federal investment in my district and I believe I have made significant contributions to our national education policy. But we have not remained competitive in the global economy and we need to improve our graduation rates and increase our expertise in science, math and technology. I have introduced several pieces of legislation to do this and while some of it has been enacted this year in the Higher Education Act and the Competes Act, there are still important workforce pieces that need to be completed in the Workforce Investment Act next year. As chairman of the subcommittee with jurisdiction over this legislation,
I can help us develop the 21st century workforce we need to remain competitive.
I believe I have made a measurable difference in the lives of the residents of the 15th district, but there is more to be done and I am humbly asking that the people of South Texas return me to office so I can complete these efforts and continue to be their experienced and strong advocate in Washington.
If elected, what are your goals for this position?
Enact funding measures to jump start the economy, bring strength, security and transparency to our financial markets, help small businesses and create 5 million new jobs; bring down gasoline and energy prices by increasing our domestic supply of oil, gas and clean coal and investing in renewable energy research and production; remove our troops from Iraq in a responsible manner….
