Prosecutor quits after losing Harris County district attorney race

HOUSTON (AP) – A flamboyant prosecutor who lost her bid last month to replace Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal following his resignation due to an e-mail scandal has also quit her job.

Kelly Siegler, 45, submitted her resignation letter to interim District Attorney Ken Magidson Friday afternoon. It takes effect immediately.

She had been an assistant district attorney for 21 years.

Rosenthal, her former boss and once considered Texas’s most powerful prosecutor, became embroiled in scandal earlier this year after dozens of pornographic, racist and political e-mails were discovered on his office computer.

Siegler joined the chorus calling for his resignation and decided to run for his job after he abandoned his re-election campaign. Rosenthal later stepped down as district attorney.
