The commissioners court approved the name during regular session Monday. County Judge Ronnie Leck also announced for the public record that the final papers on the sale of the building were signed on Thursday, May 29, and the county took possession of the building.
Commissioners also discussed the status of the three tenants in the facility, Hospice, H&R Block and Subway.
Hospice’s lease expires later this year, but it has an option to renew and plans to.
The other two businesses have “a little more time left on their leases, and we plan to honor them,” said Leck.
“But the commissioners expressed the desire that when those spaces become available, we will want them,” said the county judge. County offices are expected to be relocated from the current courthouse to the annex later this year.
The 1899 courthouse will be undergoing a renovation with a nearly $3 million Texas Historical Commission grant.
The renovation will include plumbing, electrical, and mechanical needs, among other renovations.
Even after the courthouse renovation is complete, some county offices will remain in the annex building.
