Mrs. Junia Rosborough Barbee opened the Easter week gaieties yesterday with an elaborate reception and card party given at the home of her father, Judge J. M. Rosborough, on North Main. Mrs. Barbee chose as her decorations Easter lillies, sweet peas and daisies blended with the green foliage of potted plants. Forty-two guests were in attendance. At the end of the games it was found that Mrs. W.F. DeTar was the lucky winner of the ace prize, a beautiful hand painted fruity bowl of pond lily design, and Mrs. Mettie Roselle the captor of the consolation, a lovely rail plate.

New York: A boom in railroad stocks and bonds with a sharp rally in government bonds marked the third day of the stock market’s inflation rise. The dollar showed a stronger tone, though weakening further against sterling.

Big Novelty Dance will be held at Guadalupe Friday Music by the Sever Aces. Admission 40 cents.

Exactly 4,022 paying customers jammed their way into Riverside Park yesterday to greet the Victoria Rosebuds in the first Texas League baseball game ever played in Victoria. Program ceremonies were lengthy and lavish. Mayor W. R. McCright. Texas League president Dick Butler and County Judge Frank Crain were flown onto the playing field by Helicopter to get things under way. City Manager Ivan Oliver, acting as master of ceremonies, introduced Morris Roberts, president of the Bud Boosters Club, Roberts extended greetings to the Rosebuds on behalf of the city and in turn introduced Butler, who welcome the Victoria team into the Texas League. Elmo Estes, Rosebud assistant business manager, then introduced members of both the Houston Buffs and Rosebuds to the fans. Les Kelly, Chamber of Commerce manager, presented Rosebud Manager Lou Rochelli with a giant good luck horseshoe of roses. Victoria owners Tom O’Connor and Dan Braman were given a standing ovation by the fans. Rt. Rev. Msgr. F. O. Beck gave the invocation, Dr. Cliff Martin led the singing of the national anthem, McCright took to the mound, Crain stepped to the plate and muffed the opening pitch, a wicked curve, and the umpire bellowed “play ball.” The sunshine was bright, the crowd enthusiastic, and the hot dogs delicious. And besides, the Buds won, 4-1.

Veteran Southern Pacific Railroad conductor Robert H. Sutphin was killed Wednesday morning with a diesel engine on which he was riding collided with a gravel truck at a crossing where rail officials were reviewing a 1978 train-truck accident.
