Program for Firemen’s Day: Tournament on Constitution Street at 10 a.m. Parade will form at the Market Square at 11:30 a.m. and begin line of march at 12 o’clock. Firemen’s banquet at the casino at 1 p.m. Launching of the dredgeboat promptly at 3 p.m. Firemen’s races on Main Street in front of the Public Square at 4 p.m. Baseball game between Victoria and Yoakum at Buhler-Welder park at 5 p.m. “Cupid at College” at the Opera House and dances at the City Hall and Skating Rink at night. (Free skating tickets for all who purchase tickets fort the play).

Victoria won second place and a cash prize of $40 in the state home economics meet held at Mineral Wells the past week, according to a telegram received here Saturday by Superintendent V. L. Griffin of the Public Schools. Victoria was represented by three leading members of the Home Economics Class of Patti Welder High School and the Junior College. They were Misses Margaret Lerner, Arline Taylor and Louise Alexander, Miss Lerner won first place in the school dress section. Miss Taylor fourth place in the tailored suit division and Miss Alexander fourth place in the children’s clothes section. Miss Alexander also won fourth in selecting standard dietaries. The contestants motored to Mineral Wells Wednesday accompanied by Miss Imogene McNeill, one of the teachers of the Home Economics Department. The other teacher is Miss Elizabeth White.

Linda Elaine Sellers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Sellers, won first place in Conference B. Extemporaneous Speaking last weekend while representing Bloomington High School at the University Interscholastic League state meet.

General Services Administration has hired architects for the new Federal Building to be built in Victoria, Congressman Clark W. Thompson and Sen. Ralph W. Yarbrough reported from Washington yesterday. They reported the new U. S. Post Office and Courthouse will be designed by the firms of Jordan C. Ault and Robert Rick of Victoria, and by Page, Southerland and Page of Austin.

Gus Stolz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gust Stolz of Victoria and a native of the city, will retire July 1 from the faculty of Montana Technical Institute where he has been a professor of petroleum engineering since 1955 and currently serves as director of placement.

Cuero - Five Hunt Elementary School students gave poetry readings at the Rotary Club meeting Thursday. The students, all fifth graders, are Deborah Ashly, Angie Stiles, Joel Alcazar, Kevin Lange and Stacy Weldon. The students gave the same readings in University Interscholastic League competition. They were coached by Mrs. E. P. Mixon, Hunt school teacher. Chris Fuchs, a Cuero High School senior, was a special guest, Fuchs, winner of the club’s 1983 scholarship award, will attend the University of Texas at Ausin where he will be a physics major.

Runge - Honor rolls of the Runge Independent School District for grades seven through 12 for the fifth six-week period have announced by Superintendent of Schools Dalton Bissett. All A’s - seventh grade, Dean Schendel; eighth grade, Mike Gisler; freshmen, none; sophomores, Erlinda Martinez; juniors, Anice Gisler; seniors, none.
