VERNON BIRMINGHAM
INEZ - Vernon Birmingham of Inez passed away Tuesday, December11, 2012, at the age of 90. He was born December 16, 1921, in Telferner, Texas, to the late Martin and Lucille Deckert Birmingham.
Vernon retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of active duty service. He was a WWII veteran having participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and was captured during the Battle of the Bulge. He served the remainder of the war as a POW in Germany.
Vernon was the administrator of the Brownson Home for Children in Victoria for over 20 years and retired in 1989. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Inez and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also one of the founding members of the Inez Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his Daughters; Jeanelle Haynes and her husband Wayne of Inez, and Annette Parker and her husband Keith of San Antonio; Son, David Birmingham and his wife Linda of Friendswood; Grandchildren, Melissa Roessler, Brian Haynes, Chad Birmingham, Justin Birmingham, Chelsey Healy, Jordan Birmingham, Derek Parker, Lindsey McCrea, and Chase Parker; Vernon is also survived by twelve Great -Grandchildren; and many loving family members and friends.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Mae Machicek Birmingham; and his brother, Roosevelt "Bill" Birmingham.
A Rosary will be held Friday, December 14, 2012, at 7:00 pm, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inez. A Funeral Mass will be Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inez. Reverend Gabriel Bentil will be officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Farrer Cemetery in Inez.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
