MEEKS O. "MICKEY" RICE
YOAKUM - Meeks, O. "Mickey" Rice, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. He was born on July 17, 1925 in Yoakum to Eugene and Dora Owen Rice.
He served in the Merchant Marines during W.W. II. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 20 years and then was owner and operator of Rice Electric Co. until his retirement in 1990. Mickey was an active deacon for Austin Street Baptist Church and served faithfully at the Yoakum Food Pantry.
Survivors: Dorothy "Dot" Rice of Yoakum; sons, Meeks O. "Mike" Rice Jr. and wife Elaine of Richmond, Gene Rice and wife Margaret of Victoria, and David Rice and wife Dawn of Waco; "adopted daughter", Diana Woods and husband Roy of Buda; grandchildren; Matthew Rice, Lauren Rice Ivy, Natalie Rice Saville, Kristen Rice Jackson, Justin Rice, Katy Rice Wood, Kaylan Rice, and six great-grandchildren; brothers, William E. Rice and wife Elizabeth of Tomball and John Rice and wife Joan of LaGrange; sisters, Marion Davis of Yoakum, Frances Lilijequist of Harrison, Ark. and Helen Turner and husband Calvin of Lindale.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia Person.
Family visitation is 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Austin Street Baptist Church with Rev. W.W. Connally Jr. and Rev. Mike Seay officiating. Graveside service at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.
Pallbearers: Matthew Rice, Justin Rice, Clint Ivy, Brendan Wood, J.B. Saville and Eric Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Yoakum Food Pantry or donor's choice.
