M.E. "ERNIE" BOWEN
HUTTO - M.E. "Ernie" Bowen, 71, formerly of Refugio, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 28, 2013 at his residence in Hutto, Texas.
Ernie was born on March 22, 1942 in Fort Worth, Texas. Ernie served as a long time Senior Vice President at the First National Bank of Refugio. Ernie held a Masters degree in banking from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He served in the U.S. Army in Fairbanks, Alaska. He served as a courier and helped supervise missile operations during the Cold War era. Ernie loved football and enjoyed watching the Refugio Bobcats, Texas Longhorns, and Dallas Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his mother Rose Morgan Bowen and father Marion Ernest Bowen I; Aunts Frances Davidson, Reveir Mangum, and Goldean Schaefer. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Bowen, his son Todd Bowen, his daughter-in-law Kelly Bowen, his grandchildren Julianne Bowen and Brendan Bowen, cousins Byron Mangum, Kurt Shaefer, and Pete Schaefer, and beloved miniature schnauzer Maya.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Monday, December 9 at Padilla Hall in Refugio at 2 pm with visitation afterwards.
