MELVIN EDMUND ROEDER
SHINER - Melvin Edmund Roeder, 77, of Shiner, Texas passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Yoakum Community Hospital in Yoakum, Texas.
Funeral Mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral home in Shiner, Texas and will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at the Shiner Catholic Cemetery in Shiner, Texas. Rosary was recited on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 7:00 pm at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Shiner, Texas with Deacon Paul Patek officiating.
Melvin was born on January 6, 1936 in Shiner, Texas. He was the son of Edmund and Dorthea (Blier) Roeder. Melvin married Janet Janicek on September 17, 1956 at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas. He was a member of Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas. Melvin was co-owner of Roeder's Mobile Feed Mill for 12 years and worked as a Controller for Purina Mills in Gonzales, Texas for 27 years. Melvin was the Outstanding Young Farmer in 1966 & 1967. He was a founding member of the South Texas Wheel Spinners and Crank Twisters Club, and a member of the Early Day Gas Engine & Tractor Association, Inc. Melvin was past President of Shiner Businessmen's Club, and past Secretary of Hallettsville Young Farmers.He was a member of Lavaca and Shiner Farm Bureau, GVEC Member Information Committee, Shiner Game and Fish League, and Shiner KJT #20. Melvin raised hogs as a business and cattle as a hobby. He enjoyed going to dances with his wife, Janet. Melvin collected Farmall and John Deere Tractors.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet, one son; Mark Roeder and his wife, Nancy of Round Rock, Texas, two daughters; Sherry Schena and her husband, Angelo of Bastrop, Texas, Gwen Seiley and her husband, Terry of Shiner, Texas, and one sister, Edwarda Roeder of Shiner, Texas, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Edmund and Dorthea Roeder.
