JOSIE GUERRA GONZALES
VICTORIA - Josie Guerra Gonzales, 70, of Victoria, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013. She was born December 23, 1942 in Del Rio to the late Jose and Julia Morales Guerra. She was a Presbyterian and a nurse practitioner.
She graduated Salutatorian from San Felipe High School in Del Rio. She attended Victoria College and earned her Bachelor's degree in nursing and then continued her education at UT Southwestern in Dallas and became a nurse practitioner. She was an active member in the community, serving on the Housing Authority Board, President of the American Citizens Social Club and an advocate for women's rights and education.
She loved working and helping people. Her work experience included her husband's construction business, labor and delivery nursing, and many years as a nurse practitioner for UTMB clinic, where she retired. Upon retirement she returned to work for Hospice of South Texas as an RN. This added much gratification to her successful career.
She had a passion for music and the fine arts. She loved traveling and spending time with her family and friends. One of her greatest pleasures was attending church and cooking for her church. She and her husband of 50 years, Alvin, always enjoyed celebrating special occasions and hosting numerous festivities at their home.
She is survived by her daughters, Julie Ann Gonzales Stephens and Jennifer Michelle Gonzales, both of Victoria; sons, Chris Gonzales (Christina) of Port Lavaca and John Edward Gonzales of Victoria; sister, Julie Croom of Houston; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin Gonzales Jr.; and brother, Jose Luis Guerra.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Artero Memorial Chapels. Visitation will resume from 9 - 10 a.m. before a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Nicea Presbyterian Church, 401 S. De Leon St. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Anthony Christopher Gonzales, John Austin Gonzales, Saxon Stephens, Joey "J.L." Guerra, Abe Arredondo, and Gil Juarez.
