FRANCES PAULINE CKODRE
NORDHEIM - Frances Pauline Ckodre, 96, of Nordheim, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013 in Cuero. She was born on April 1, 1916, near Yorktown, to the late Frank and Victoria Maron Pawlik.
Frances Pawlik was married to Joseph Edward (Ed) Ckodre in Yorktown on January 6, 1937. She made her home in the Cabeza community for 76 years. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, JoAn Weddle; and son, Don Ckodre.
Frances was proud to call herself a housewife, but that doesn't begin to describe her role in the family. From the beginning of their marriage she worked side-by-side with her husband in their farming and ranching life including picking cotton and pulling corn by hand, doctoring and branding cattle, butchering hogs and chickens and later running their dairy farm and whatever else needed to be done. She also was an avid gardener, both vegetable and flower. She canned vegetables for the family to use and put her beautiful roses to grace the table.
Frances sewed the family clothes and loved quilting and doing embroidering. She loved to play dominos and bingo for entertainment, but her primary call was to be her family's caregiver and always put everyone else's need above her own.
She was a life time Catholic and a member of St. Ann's Altar Society in Nordheim, a founding member of the Cabeza Home Demonstration Club and a member of the Sons of Hermann.
She is survived by daughter, Kathleen (Ray) Parks of Cuero; sons, Lawrence (Norlene) of Victoria, Robert (Dorothy) of Nordheim, and Gary (Pam) of Fulshear; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sister, Lillian Mayer of Houston; brothers, Raymond Pawlik and Eddie Pawlik of Victoria and Victor Pawlik of Cold Springs.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Sally, Anne, Florence and Theresa and brothers, Joe, Frank, Jerry and Richard.
The family would like to acknowledge the loving care of the Cuero Nursing and Rehabilitation, Dr. Mark Heard and South Texas Hospice.
Visitation will be 2-8 pm, Friday, January 18, 2013, at Finch Funeral Chapel in Yorktown and Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown with burial to follow at Nordheim Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Brett Ckodre, Brian Parks, Craig Parks, Robert Ckodre, Jr., Joseph Ckodre and Justin Weddle. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters: Deidre Villarreal, Pam Owens, Lajuana Keener, Dana McLaughlin and Erin Ckodre and the great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Frances' name to St. Michael's Catholic School in Cuero, Hospice of South Texas, the Salvation Army or donor's choice.
