JESSE A. WHITEHEAD JR.
EDNA - Jesse A. Whitehead Jr., of Edna, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the age of 83. He was born October 3, 1929, in Sinton, Texas, to the late Jesse A. Whitehead Sr. and Selma Schilhab Whitehead.
Jesse served in the United States Marine Corp. and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Putnam on December 15, 1951. After his military career, he worked for over 40 years in the construction field for CCC Group, Inc.
He is survived by his daughters: Carolyn Whitehead Hill and her husband Bill of Victoria and Theresa Whitehead of Edna; sons: Steven "Bubba" Whitehead and his wife Sherrie of Edna and Kenny "Bull" Whitehead, also of Edna; sister, Lillian Brandenburg of Sinton; brother, Leo Whitehead of Mathis; grandchildren: Steffany Whitehead, Christopher Whitehead, Kenny Jay Whitehead and Courtney Whitehead. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Jesse is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sisters, Ruby Allen, Opal Faye Whitehead and Evelyn Maxine Whitehead; and daughter-in-law, Patti Jewel Whitehead.
Jesse's family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to his granddaughter, Courtney Whitehead, caregivers, Paula Riccabona, Jodi Tompkins and Virginia Garcia, Dr. Shenouda, and Hospice of South Texas for the wonderful care they gave.
Visitation will be Monday, January 28, 2013, 6 - 8 p.m., at Oaklawn Funeral Home. Funeral will be Tuesday, January 29, 2013, 10 a.m. at Oaklawn Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery. Service to be officiated by Jesse's grandson, Chris Whitehead.
Pallbearers will be David Rose, Jake Srp, James Hunt, Lee Putnam, Frankie Brandenburg Jr. and Michael Beard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Airhart, Gary Williams, Billy Porche, and Dr. Rouchdy Shenouda.
Memorials may be made to the donors' choice.
