REUBEN R. ARRENDELL
CUERO - Reuben Richard Arrendell, 75, of Cuero passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013. He was born May 10, 1937 in Cleveland, Texas to the late Noble Arrendell and Alice Rushing Whitmire. He married his beloved wife, Norma Jean Arrendell, on January 28, 1962 in Premont, Texas. He retired from DuPont where he worked for nearly 30 years. He served in the US Navy from 1959-1963. It was while stationed in Kingsville that he met Norma Jean. He was an avid fisherman and a navigator of the Guadalupe River near Cuero. He grew pecans there for nearly 30 years. It was that good river water that helped make them the best pecans in DeWitt County. Reuben's tender loving care made them the best in the state, which were voted Grand Champion by the Texas Pecan Growers Association in 1995. He loved being a river rat and lived in the River Haven subdivision as long as his health would allow. He spent his spare time enjoying family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Lori Pridgen and husband, Bill, of Corpus Christi; son, Steven Arrendell and wife, Esther, of Houston; sisters, Nancy Cole of San Antonio and Joyce Reinhardt and husband, David, of Houston; brother, Tommy Pate and wife, Judy, of Houston; grandchildren, Amanda Pridgen, Christina Pridgen, and Shelby Pridgen all of Corpus Christi, and Samuel Arrendell of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife , and sister, Leavon Bond.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Lucian Jendrusch, Melvin Chaloupka, Juan Monreal, Jeffrey Lowe, Kevin Leck, and James Cordes.
Honorary pallbearers include Melton Denton, Joe Jeurica, Thelma Balderas, and Laura Hart.
