BOYD LEWIS DESPAIN
VICTORIA - Boyd Lewis DeSpain, 88, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013. He was born on December 26, 1924 in Carrizo Springs to the late Daniel Arnold and Rhode Ellen Winters DeSpain. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Boyd was a retired area superintendent for United Gas United Texas, a member of the Cameron Masonic Lodge AF & AN #76 of Yorktown, Houston Scottish Rites, Sons of Republic of Texas-Victoria, America Legion- Victoria and V.F.W. Post # 4146. Boyd served for five years as a councilman on the Edna City Council.
Boyd is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Mae Freude DeSpain of Victoria; daughters, Susan M. DeSpain Dickens (Thomas) of Hebbronville and Nancy L. DeSpain Caudle (Alan) of Grapeland; grandchildren, Tiffany L. Bryant, Daniel J. Bryant (Angel), Melissa L. Caudle Lambert (David) and Christopher S. Caudle; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Charlotte "Lottie" Coleman, Ida Annie DeSpain, Nancy E. Dickens, Tennessee "Tennie" Dickens, Gaytha G. Garland; brothers, Oran L. DeSpain, John W. DeSpain, Elba L. DeSpain and Gordon A. DeSpain.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 4, 2013 from 6-8 pm at Grace Funeral Home. Funeral services with Rev. Tim Williams officiating, and full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, EX-POW, MOPH, VVA, and KWV will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Grace Funeral Home at 10 am. Burial will follow at 2 pm at Westside Cemetery in Yorktown. Masonic services will be conducted by Victoria Masonic Lodge # 40.
Pallbearers are Christopher S. Caudle, Ruston Dickens, Randall Dickens, Sammy Ray DeSpain, Dennis Freude and Carl Bedgood. Honorary pallbearers are David E. Lambert, Jimmy Zarate, Thomas A. Dickens, Alan S. Caudle, Morris Azbill, Johnny Green, Alvin Browning and Cody Glover.
Memorials in Boyd's name may be made to Hospice of South Texas.
