ROBERT V. "BOB" BELL
BAY CITY - Robert V. "Bob" Bell, 81, of Bay City passed away July 9, 2013. He was born November 21, 1931 in New Gulf, TX to the late Frank Edwin Bell and Nora Schmerber Bell.
He was preceded in death by sisters Irene Jinks and Gladys Lane, brother Floyd Bell and daughter Laurie Bell.
He attended Public School in Bay City and lettered 3 years in football. He served as captain of the football team in 1949 and was his Junior Class Favorite. He was Greenhand President of FFA and won several State awards and president of FFA Chapter for 2 years. Upon graduation, he served two years in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge in 1954, he was self-employed in the construction business. In 1962, he and his brothers Bill and Don formed Bell Construction Company, specializing in home and commercial construction. In 1980, Bob began working for SOLOCO Company as a Field Superintendent from 1980-1985. After leaving the company, he moved into the Rental Business where he remained self-employed until his death.
He served 2 terms on the Bay City ISD Board of Trustees; served as Vice-President of Little League Baseball Association; President of Texas Teenage Summer Baseball Program; Board of Bay City Babe Ruth Association; Vice-President of Black Cat Booster Club and was named Booster of the Year in 1975; Honorary Fellowship of Christian Athletes Award; Member of Board of Directors of Bay City Kiwanis Club; Boy Scout Troop 1007; Cub Scout Pack 51; Board member of City of Bay City Recreation Committee; member of Bay City Chamber of Commerce and a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joann Mielsch Bell; sons Bob Bell, Jr. & wife Kim and Barry Bell & wife Karen; sisters Doris Moberley, Ellanora Hartsfield and husband Neil, Nell Middleton; brothers William M. Bell & wife Anita and Donald M Bell and wife Linda; grandchildren Jeffrey Bell, Michael Bell, Rachael Bell, Jessica Bell, Alaina Bell, Parker Bell and Nolan Bell and several nieces and nephews.
Bob especially enjoyed the return to his childhood home of Matagorda. His favorite times were spent at the camp house he built there. Fishing was a passion of his and he left that legacy to his sons and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Tom Quirk officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Pallbearers will be Bill Bell, Jr, Tim Bell, Matthew Bell, Taylor Bell, Jeffrey Bell, Parker Bell, Michael Bell and Nolan Bell.
In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family requests memorials be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund.
