Macario Benavides

Born on March 10, 1939

PORT LAVACA - Macario "Mac" Benavides, 74, of Port Lavaca, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. He was born March 10, 1939 in Port Lavaca to the late Felix and Maria Benavides Leal, and was raised by his grandfather, Luis Benavides. He was a Roman Catholic and retired after 42 years as a hardware sales associate for Melcher.
He is survived by his wife, and love of his life for 51 years, Juanita Ovalle Benavides; sons, Paul Ray Benavides (Emily) of Lolita, Eddie Benavides (Diana) of Allen, Michael Benavides (Virginia) of Mission Valley; sisters, Marcela Baker of South Carolina, Manuella Mills (Rudolph) of South Carolina, Sally Plover (Robert) of Wyoming, Pressie Carter (McCollin) of South Carolina, Irene Craven (Raymond) of South Carolina, and Marianne Holmes (Don) of South Carolina; 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Anselmo Leal and Santiago Leal; and sisters, Mary Jane Leal and Gloria Maria Fender.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 4 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Artero Memorial Chapels in Port Lavaca. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Gulf with burial to follow at Port Lavaca Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Christopher Benavides, Paul Ray Benavides II, Joshua Benavides, and Macario Thomas Benavides, Andy Craven, Tim Baker, Freddie Ovalle, and Daniel Ovalle.
