RAMON VILLA SR.
VICTORIA - Ramon Villa Sr., 93, of Victoria, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2013. He was born January 9, 1920 in Donna to the late Antonio and Simona Hernandez Villa. He was a Catholic and a shop-yard foreman.
He served proudly in the United States Army and was a World War II POW for 40 months. While serving he earned many medals and decorations, including the American Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 6 Bronze Stars, Philippine Defense Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Victory Ribbon, 1 Service Stripe, 7 Overseas Service Bars, Distinguished Unit Badge with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart.
He is survived by his sons, Ruben Antonio Villa, Tom Villa (Estella), and Rick Villa (Gracie), all of Victoria; daughter-in-law, Donna Villa of Houston; sisters, Ramona Yanes of Yorktown, Marianna Santos of San Antonio, Stella Villa of San Antonio, Amada Villa of San Antonio, and Sylvia Medina of Virginia; brothers, Mike Villa of San Antonio, Joe Villa of Yoakum, and Robert Villa of Victoria; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ygnacia Muniz Villa; daughter, Juanita Simona Villa; son, Raymond Villa Jr.; sisters, Rebecca Ovalle and Josefina Villa; and brothers, John Villa, Rudy Villa, and Leon Villa.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at Artero Memorial Chapels. Visitation will resume from 8 - 9 a.m. before a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery with a full military service under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, Ex-POW, MOPH, VVA, and the KWV.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons: MacArthur Villa, Derrick Villa, Elliott Villa, Jeremy Villa, Robert Morales, Daniel Morales, and Robert Lee Morales. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters: Brenda Morales, Jill Villa, and Alyssa Villa.
