DOUGLAS WAYNE RABENALDT
VICTORIA - Douglas Wayne Rabenaldt, 79, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, June, 12, 2013. He was born February 26, 1934, in Green Lake to Paul Marcos and Agnes Lundchen Rabenaldt.
At age 16 he quit school to help at home and went to work in the oilfield. In 1954, he married his soul mate and love, Mary Beth Record. After two small children, in 1956 he went to work for his brother at Aloe Field as a mechanic working on aircraft. They moved to Foster Field and then to the Calhoun County Airport. When his brother was killed in an airplane accident he loaded his tools in his truck, got his A&P license and in 1969 formed Rabenaldt Aviation. He became well known thru out the Ag Aviation business. Many a time on a lonely airstrip he would start at daylight removing an engine and by night time have a new one in and have the plane ready to fly again. From October to February each year he did the yearly maintenance on about 25 planes getting them ready for the next season. Due to illness he finally gave it up in 2006.
Douglas and Mary Beth loved to travel. Probably the most enjoyed was a 3 month trip out West, to Canada, Yukon, Alaska and the North Pole. He was the coordinator for 5 years for the Carriage Travel Club serving as Chairman for 2 Carriage Texas Rallies, Director for Victoria County MidCoast Sportsmans Club, member of the Woodmen of the World and Sons of Herman.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Beth; son, David Wayne (Brenda); daughters, Phyllis Gail ( Glenn) Repka and Lisa Diane (Dale) Koliba. Grandaughters, Kristin Elizabeth (David) Grahmann, Amanda Jean (Brian) Stevenson, Tessa Renee (Jay) Wimberly, Tarra Nicole (Raymond) Valenta and step granddaughter, Julia Gallenbach (Brandon Dreibrodt). Grandsons, Matthew Charles (Tara) Laging, Shelby Lee (Fiance Chelsea Heinold) Laging, Dustin Wade Rabenaldt, Jonathan Tyler Koliba. Step grandon, Ryan (Nicole) Barnett, Jimmy (Laura) Gallenbach. Great grandchildren, Reigan Lopez, Kynlee Grahmann, Sydney and Savannah Stevenson, Caden Valenta, Karston and Sawyer Wimberly, Adalyn, Blaiden and Canton Laging. Step great grandchildren, Payton and Tyler Barnett.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Kellie Diane Laging; brothers, Gilbert and Nathan; sisters, Leona Johnson, Viola Dearman, Pauline King, Thelma Crossley and Angie Hooks.
Visitation will be from 6-8 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 14, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at Rosewood Funeral Chapel on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dan Zellmer officiating.
Interment will follow at the Tivoli Cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Matthew and Shelby Laging, Dustin Rabenaldt, Jonathan Koliba, David Grahmann, Jay Wimberly, Brian Stevenson and Raymond Valenta.
Honorary pallbearers are all the Ag Pilots whose planes he kept in the air.
