EDNA - Benjamin (Ben) Frank Hyek, 82, of Edna passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 following a motor vehicle accident near Hillje, Texas. Ben was born in 1930 in Hillje to the late Joseph and Rosie Hyek. He retired from Alcoa Aluminum in Port O'Connor after nearly 40 years of employment. He also owned and served the community under Ben's Radio and TV service for more than 50 years. He was active in the American Legion and the St. Vincent de Paul organization as well as in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Ben is survived by his sons, Pat of San Jose, California; Chris of Houston, Texas; and Michael of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter Monica Foster of Orange Grove, Texas; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Polasek of El Campo, Texas; and brother Vic Hyek of Nada, Texas.
Dorothy Mae Hyek, 75, of Edna passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident near Hillje, Texas. Dorothy was born in 1937 in Six Mile, Texas to the late Emil and Alma Holy. She worked for the later Senator Bill Patman until the birth of her fourth child in 1966. Thereafter, she was a full time homemaker and business manager for Ben's Radio and TV, where she worked with her late husband Ben Hyek. She was active in many community organizations including the American Legion; St. Agnes Catholic Church Altar Society; quilting groups; and several others as well as in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Pat of San Jose, California; Chris of Houston, Texas; and Michael of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter Monica Foster of Orange Grove, Texas; and six grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Irene Koliba of Houston, Texas; and Marjorie Tasin of Victoria, Texas.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on March 7th at Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado, Texas. Rosary and wake commence at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Friday, March 8th at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna, Texas at 9 a.m. followed by services at 1 p.m. with Reverend Michael Petering serving. Burial will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Ganado, Texas.
