Sister Bernice A. Pantel

Born on Oct. 1, 1919

VICTORIA - Sister Bernice A. Pantel, 93, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. She was born on October 1, 1919 in Victoria to the late Gus and Elfrieda Maurer Pantel.
Sister Bernice received a B.A. degree in 1951 at Texas Lutheran College, a Masters degree in 1963 from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN. She was consecrated as the first Deaconess in the Lutheran Church on August 15, 1951. She served for 25 years in congregations of 15 churches in Houston, New York state and Pennsylvania. She also served 10 years with Deaconess Education Program in Baltimore, Md. and Gladwyne, Pa.. Beatrice retired in 1986. She was member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church.
Sister Bernice is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sister, Norma Lee Dietzel; brother, Kernall Ray Pantel and Nelson John Pantel.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 9-10 am at Martin Luther Lutheran Church. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 am with Pastor Jeffrey Bergeron officiating. Burial will follow at Coletoville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews Glenn Dietzel, Dennis Dietzel, Curtis Pantel, Gaylon Pantel, Mark Pantel and Stan Pantel.
In lieu of the usual remembrances, Sister Bernice requested donations be made to Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Coletoville.
