YOAKUM - Frances McLarry Baldwin, 92, passed away on September 11, 2013.
Frances Paralee Smith was born May 21, 1921 in Ector, Texas to Herman Jinks and Emma Dees Smith.
She graduated from Savoy High School as valedictorian of her class in 1939. She was married to Carl McLarry in 1940 and moved to Yoakum in 1944. She was an employee of Tex-Tan Welhausen Inc. for 15 years. She began her college career at the age of 45, graduating in 1975 from the University of Houston-Victoria with a Bachelor of Science degree and later earning her Master of Education degree from Southwest Texas State University in 1984. She taught government, geography and American History at Cuero High School for 10 years. In later years, she enjoyed membership in the Cuero Retired Teachers' Association.
As a charter member of Faith Baptist Church (presently New Life Baptist Church), she was a faithful Sunday School teacher of children, youth and adults for 50 years.
She is survived by her sister, Tommy Jinks Hodges, of Savoy, Texas; sisters-in-law, Theresa McLarry of Tomball and Polly Smith of Denison,Tx.; children, Connie Ausec (George), Carla Walthall (Jay), Claudia McLarry, David McLarry (Carol), and Doug McLarry; grandchildren, Kurt Ausec (Ginny), Chris Ausec (Heather), Holly Hall (Curtis), Sara Walthall, Carl Rickman, Michael Rickman (Kristy), Allison Strauss (Matt), Rachel Allen (Sean), Julie McLarry (Justin Homfeld); 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous much-loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Carl McLarry and Wayne Baldwin; brother, Herman Jinks Smith, Jr., and sisters, Ruby Cross and Leona Jean Morgan; half-brothers, Ralph Smith, Lee Smith, John Wesley Smith, and half-sisters, Edna Larwood, Nettie Burkett, Willie Carter and Kate Cowart.
The family offers its sincere appreciation to Dr. Ralph Wagner, Dr. Tim Wagner, Dr. Bishop, other doctors, nurses and staff of Yoakum Community Hospital for their years of care. The family also wishes to thank special caregivers Cindy Sapp and Virginia Pineda.
Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2013, at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home in Yoakum. Funeral service 4 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at New Life Baptist Church, Yoakum. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
