ELNA K. "NELSEN" WALKER
EL CAMPO - Elna K. "Nelsen" Walker died peacefully at home in El Campo, Texas surrounded by her family on September 15, 2013.
Elna, affectingly know as 'Nell', was born June 1, 1919 in Danevang, Texas. to Edward and Christine Nelsen and is preceded by her parents and sisters Eda and Inger.
She is survived by her husband of over 71 years, Otis W. Walker and her children Kathryn Pounder of El Campo, R. L. "Skeet" Walker of Winnetka, IL. and Keith Walker of Oklahoma City along with ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters in law.
She graduated from High School in El Campo before attending nursing school at St. Mary's in Galveston where she earned her RN Degree. While in Nursing School she met O.W. They were married December 21, 1941 shortly before O.W. went into the Navy. After the war, they set up house in Texas City where they lived and raised their family. In Texas City, she worked for several Doctors and Hospitals before becoming 'Nurse Nellie' for the Texas City School District. At retirement, they moved to Broken Arrow, OK where they stayed until 2009 when they moved to El Campo, Texas to stay with their daughter.
Where ever she lived she found a place to help others whether thru her job, church, relatives or neighbors. Her many years of selfless serving of others will long be remembered by those whose life she touched.
She will be missed by all who were touched by her.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church at 210 Depot St. in El Campo on Thursday September 19, 2013 at 10:00 AM.
