Back in the day Leroy was known for his athletic prowess on the football field and was called The Southwest Terror of the backfield. He played at Port Lavaca High School, Victoria Jr. College where he set 7 records and for the United States Air Force at Scott AFB, Illinois.
He was a lover of country, bluegrass and gospel music and played four different instruments; the guitar, banjo, dobro and violin. He played for many charitable events, stage shows, nursing homes and his church.
