GOLIAD - Walter Warren Lang, age 89, entered his eternal rest at his home. Visitation will begin at 1pm on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at St. Johns Lutheran church in Goliad with funeral services following at 2pm at the church with Rev. Randy Bruno officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Glendale Cemetery.
Wally Lang was born March 11, 1925 in Goliad County, Texas to the late Walter F. Lang and Freda Bruchmiller Lang.
He is survived by his dear "brother" and best friend, Robert C. "Bob" Head of Goliad. One surviving Bruchmiller aunt, Lois Bruchmiller lives in Gresham, OR. Bruchmiller first cousins are Beverly Rippey of Atoka, TN, Altanette Autry of Osprey, FL, Carol Scamardo of College Station, Arlene Price of Houston, Carolyn Murray of Magnolia, Patrick Bruchmiller of Sarco, Loita Parmenter of Renton, WA, Sherry Gerards of Gresham, OR, Jan Otis of Snohomish, WA, Gary Bruchmiller of Kalama, WA, Phillis Bruchmiller of Humble, JoNell Kelly and Pam Erstling of Spring, Larry Kolodzey and Karen McMaster of Austin, Cindi Roth of Parker, CO. Wally is also survived by first cousins Larry Lang of Goliad, Allen Lang, Joe Trapp, and second cousin Larry Lang of Victoria.
Mr. Lang's education began at age five when his older playmate and neighbor started Catholic school and he insisted on going with him. He attended and earned degrees from Victoria Jr. College and A & I College in Kingsville and served in the U.S. Army 1942-1945 in Augusta, GA. In Freer and Odom, Wally was a public school teacher and worked in Houston at a mortgage company, later returning to Goliad to work with his father at Lang Motor Company, an auto sales and service business. While on a vacation in Acapulco Wally received a call from a judge who would be appointing him Goliad County Auditor, a position he held until retirement. Wally was a Rotary Club member.
Dancing was his favorite entertainment as a member of Polka Lovers Club of America and this often served as a ministry when the group performed in nursing homes and various venues across the state. Wally was a fine Christian man, loved, respected and admired by all who knew him. He was an active lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
