I believe that there are some roads in Victoria that are being overlooked. They need to be fixed. There are potholes and bumps all the way down them. I think that all roads should be looked at and fixed based on the ones that need it most. We are wasting money on streets that are in better condition than others. They might have a couple spots where they are bad, but there are others that are worse and are being overlooked.

Here in Victoria there are two new high schools that are being built. A total of four schools is going to be up and running in the next couple of years, and I have no idea what is planned for them, but I hope they don’t separate us depending on where we live. And the other school by the highway needs protection from the drunken drivers. We really don’t need anymore killed or severely hurt. Thank you for your time reading what I have to say.

You like fast food don't you? Well so do a lot of high schoolers, but, as of last year, we at Memorial High School are no longer able to bring fast food to lunch. The reason being is beyond me. There are so many unreasonable rules we have at this school. It’s unbelievable. Thank you for your time.

The fact that we have the death penalty is cruel in my eyes. I honestly do not see the point of having it around. I mean, think about it, to take someone’s life for taking someone else’s life? Where is the punishment in that? So they can be put to rest and not ever have to think about the crime they committed. They’re put to rest to not waste time and be miserable in the same prison cell every single day? I say if he or she is guilty, then they were just given the easy way out.
I think it is funny when parents hit their child for hitting someone else to teach them that it is wrong. That is how I see this whole death penalty thing. Telling someone not to kill, but killing them when they kill makes them just as guilty and heartless as that person. Murder is murder, no matter what shape or form.
What irritates me the most, though, is when it turns out the accused was innocent. Everyone knows that it has happened many times. But there is no “You are free to go” in this kind of case. I could not imagine how it feels to know that they took a man’s life for no good reason at all. That is why I believe it is not up to man to decide if another man should live or die. Everyone knows that God is the only real judge. So tell me, if no man on earth is able to create life alone, then why do they feel like they should have the power to take it?

Carrier Development School is in cruise today. The school board is shutting down two of the best classes that I have seen in two-and-a-half years. Construction Technology and Auto Collision are the classes that are shutting down. The reason is the lack of students joining in both classes. I now that we need these classes because of the hands-on project. In Skill USA, in Auto Collision, the students who wnet placed first, second and fourth. In Auto Collision, Mr. Hopasaw is one of the best teachers I’ve met and so is Mr. Hunt in Construction Technology.
Mr. Hunt teaches Construction Technology class for two periods. He used up his free time to do what is best to get students assured about CDS. I have been in Skill USA for two years with Mr. Hunt, and I can’t ask for a better teacher.
Mr. Hopasaw is one of Mr. Hunt’s best friend. Mr. H is a rare-working person who cares about his job and his students. So I vote not to shut down both classes because with these classes gone, CDS would not have the help from Mr. Hunt and Mr. H.

Abortions: I don’t understand why so many women would want to abort so many fetuses. If there is a reason they could not care for the child, then why not consider adoption? There are so many families looking to adopt children, and they would be more than happy to take them in. I am a mother, and I can’t even begin to tell you how proud it makes me feel to know that I gave someone the chance of life! My only advice is don’t get yourself into something you know you can't handle.

Is nuclear power really needed in Victoria, or anywhere else for that matter. I wouldn’t want to have the fear of a nuclear accident always hiding in the back of my head. There are pros and cons of nuclear energy, but, with the way things are today, the negative aspects outweigh the positive. Radioactive waste takes a very long time to decompose, and part of the land, or even the whole city, could become contaminated if an accident were to happen, such as a meltdown or a terrorist attack. When they build a plant, we get a renewed energy source. Opening a plant creates jobs which stimulates the econony, but it’s not worth taking the chance of contaminating our ground and for some having nuclear waste dumped in their own backyard

I feel that everyone is entitled to an opinion, and this is in response to Bob Ozment. I believe the the drill team at Memorial deserves the opportunity to do this show (MTV). If you knew how much hard work and time these girls spend to become national champs, it only makes sense to share that with the world. Put the spotlight on Victoria; it would only help.

The streets in Victoria are terrible! They are in dire need of re-paving, for now and future drivers.
The streets will look a whole lot nicer, and accommodate the needs of visitors and residents alike.
We're getting all this money that's going toward the new schools, but I haven't seen a street, such as Sam Houston, get fixed.

We live in a society where gas prices are increasing more now than they did before. This is because people who work for oil companies want to make a profit margin to meet their expenses; therefore, they must raise the gas prices. It may seem impossible for many people to pay for gasoline to get to the places they need to be because of these high prices.

The price for gas has been frustrating for most, if not all, people driving a car but especially those driving trucks or SUVs. A price higher than $3 a gallon seems way overpriced.
The grievances are exactly the same in the country I come from, Germany. But overseas they are complaining about gas prices at about $12 a gallon.
But I am one of the few people who think the higher the gas price the better, and I am not, nor is anyone I know, employed in the oil business, meaning I do not get anything out of higher gas prices. So why would I say something like that?
The reason is that, in my opinion, the necessary transition from oil to renewable energies can only be made by them being competitive to conserve energy sources. A higher gas price will lead to greater awareness of how we spend energy and people willing to switch to technologies that are more fuel efficient and eventually to a solution with renewable energies that is competitive in price with gas. Changes in people’s habits can only be made through their wallets.

In this town, everywhere you turn, there are gay people, and a lot of people aren't too fond of their way of life. I think those people just need to get over it.
What other people do is their own business, and outsiders need to be worried about their own lives and what is going on with them, not the people around them. The lifestyles of others don't affect what they do with their own lives.
What does it matter if two gay people get married or are a couple. That is their business and their business only. So if you see any gay men or women, boys or girls walking down the street, and you think they are gay, or know for sure that they are, don’t worry about it, and just keep walking because guess what? It’s not any of your business.

Many people ask the same question as I do. Why are our men and women still in Iraq? Is there any point to it. I believe that we should send our people home instead of having them murdered. When we first decided to go to Iraq, it was all we heard about. Now, it seems as if no one is talking about it. Can you answer me that one question? Why are we still in Iraq ?

Spring break came and passed and I managed not to get a ticket or a minor-in-possession charge. I didn’t even go to jail. Going to Port Aransas was the best of the break. Girls can get crazy over there. I wish it was like that all the time. Life would be so much more fun, and people would be less mad. On the way home I stayed in Seadrift, which is the weirdest town I have ever been to. The town is nothing but boats and water. Unfortunately, I spent the night there, and I was so happy to leave in the morning. I was excited to be back in Victoria because things seemed normal again, just how I like them.

So gas is something we wish we all didn't have to pay so much for. The old shutdown gas station going toward Bloomington highway brings a bit of nostalgia with its sign still advertising regular unleaded at $1.80. It's pretty sad that a lot of people still drive these gas guzzling SUVs. There are also some things that people overlook to save some gas. Get your oil changed. Get a tune up. Ride a bike.
Carpool when it's possible.
Try to find ways to save gas for yourself because it's not getting any cheaper. In the long run, taking a walk, no pun intended, won't hurt your health or your wallet.

I am apart of the drill team known as the Victoriadores. And I would just like to congratulate the team on becoming 2007-2008 national champions. I would also like to thank all of the people who have taken time to write to the paper about this organization and show such great concern with our practice schedules and things. We have overcome many obstacles this year, and we plan on doing our best and striving to win this last competition. Thank you for your time and concern.
