THUMBS UP

Thumbs up to everyone who sponsored, helped or attended the Warrior’s Weekend in Port O'Connor on May 3.

It was a great showing of Patriotism for the valiant troops who were there. The showing of the waving flags that symbolized our losses was unbelievable. Thanks to all who were there.

Ganado

Thumbs up for all those who flew flags at half-staff in honor of the Bay City soldier killed in Iraq.

Joseph

Palacios.

THUMBS DOWN

Thumbs down for dropping Fred Basset and replacing it with a strip that is not even comical, we want Fred back, even if it’s re-runs.

Thumbs down: Mutts is a dog — bring back Fred Basset!

Dottie

Thumbs down: The only comic I ever read was Fred Basset. I miss it so much. Now it is not even in the Sunday comics. Please bring it back.

Thumbs down for all the whiners about Mutts. It was good enough for Charles Schulz to say it was one of his favorite new comics. 'Nuf said. Now that the Houston Chronicle is no longer available here, I'm happy to find this wonderfully-drawn strip part of my daily regimen.

FROM THE EDITORIAL BOARD

THUMBS UP

Thumbs up to UHV President Tim Hudson for being chosen to participate in the U.S. Military Joint Civilian Orientation Conference, an annual program that allows certain citizens to review the operations of the military.

Thumbs up to the elder rights volunteers for making sure our senior citizens are ensured of their rights and are treated fairly.

Thumbs up to all University of Houston-Victoria and Victoria College graduates.

Thumbs up to the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars softball team for making the regional playoffs.

Thumbs up to all the moms for the good they’ve done raising their children. Happy Mother’s Day.

THUMBS DOWN

Thumbs down to love bugs when they smash against vehicles. The bugs make windshields hard to see through. And owners of bug covered cars and trucks will be forced to wash those bug remains off their vehicles.

Thumbs down to the already arrived hot weather. Spring, which ends in June, should last another month through May!

Thumbs down on the price of gasoline. American oil companies ought to be ashamed that they are hurting the country of their origin.

Thumbs down to having to wait on the tax rebate check. Why is it that the Postal Service can bring a bill on time, but not a check?

Thumbs down to Michael Maples, former principal of Memorial High School, who was convicted with prison time.

Thumbs down (again) to revelations about alleged improper conduct by Roger Clemens with women not his wife. Say it ain't so, Roger!
