What can we do?
advertising
Editor, the Advocate:

I've never done this before and have no earthly clue as what to do or how to do it, or even who to do it, but of one thing I'm sure of, we have to do something.

The gas prices that we're seeing are totally out of control, to the point that it's having a domino effect on everything else that we as consumers purchase, e.g., food and clothing.

My question truly is, what can we do?

Do we sign petitions and send them to our state elected officials?

Do we publicly assemble and protest (peacefully)? Or do we wait until we're forced to sell one of our cars (if you have more than one car) or do you just park it and walk?

Do we stop going out to eat? Do we forget about buying clothes and just wear them until they literally wear out?

Will we be forced to go to the doctor or hospital only if it's a "live or die" situation?

For those of us who have good paying jobs, we're still being affected, but not as much as those who have to support families on minimum wage. Does that mean that we wait until we're forced to take drastic measures? I don't think so!

What is currently happening to our economy is affecting everyone, and, therefore, it is the responsibility of every American to voice their opinion. But it has to be more than complaining at home or at work, or at the grocery store. Keep in mind that if we as a people begin to cut back, it will have a drastic domino affect on everything we sell or buy.

How much more will you tolerate before you voice your concern? I believe in God and that He alone is my source, but I also believe that we're obligated to do our part and that God will do His. I'm just not convinced we're doing our part.

But I'm not fooling myself! It's going to take individuals who have the time and commitment to something they truly believe in. My job requires a lot of international travel, so I know that I don't have the time. I believe that we should do something, I just don't believe that I can. A concerned American.
