Doris Perkins, center, helps Pat Grote untie a balloon from the fence of the Rose Garden in Riverside Park so she can attach a personal message Saturday afternoon before releasing it. The event was sponsored by The Compassionate Friends of Victoria, a support group for those who have lost a child. Perkins and her husband, Buddy, lost their son, Randy, in 1990.
