An Oct. 6, 2005, explosion at the Formasa Plastics in Point Comfort plant near Port Lavaca, sent plumes of smoke and flames high into the air. Several flare-off pipes were burning off residual material; however, a large fire was burning below the lower layers of smoke. These aerial file photos were taken at 2,500 feet about 4 miles away from the plant from the north, looking southeast.
