ORB, I know there are people who are hoping this is just being blown out of proportion... But like the old adage: An Ounce of Prevention is worth a pound of the cure.... Better safe than sorry. ... Prepare for the Worst but expect the best.... Anyway you want to put it.
The regular flu can be deadly as well. On that I agree with aggie. But the problem with this H1N1 virus is that we have no antibodies to it, and there is no vaccine against it --- yet. There ARE vaccines for regular influenza. I have my shot every year. I don't like being sick.
I'm just curious.... of those 13,000 who died this year from the flu, how many of them chose not to have the flu shot even though it was available?
Up front, it's not that I don't realize the potential of this thing to kill a lot of people, I hope it doesn't. This sounds like another media generated panic hoax. Was it Orson Wells' "War of the worlds" radio spoof that had everyone all puckered up thinking that the world was about to end? Even though an announcement was made at the beginning of the show that none of it was real, people either didn't hear or absorb the information. Hopefully, this won't really be as bad as they're making it out to be. Just look at all those crossroads people who called the health department or doctors' offices, "I just KNOW we have it at our house."It's kinda like the old gal whose brother had prostate trouble, she had to have it too. She had no idea of what it was but she just HAD to have it.. I think this thing is aptly named for the media SWINE who're stoking it. This could be another "illness du jour." Some sadistic idiot is somewhere, New York City maybe?, keeping score, "Hey Charlie, another million "swine" caught our "flu" yesterday. What'll our next "crisis" be? Any ideas?
Listen. So far this flu season, over 13,000 Americans have DIED from the regular flu. But that, in comparison to this swine/bird/human, 3-species hybrid recombinant strain, receives almost no media attention.
I don't know why anyone would NOT take this seriously. In cities all over the state, schools and businesses are shutting down to prevent the spread of this serious illness. I am predicting that by the end of this week or the first part of next week, the schools in Victoria, DeWitt, Goliad or Calhoun Counties will be closed... This virus WILL rear it's ugly head in the area.
