... That all men are created equal. This is not straight men, this is all men. Division of church and state. Gay people are looking for the -legal- right, to get married. This does not mean that the church is obligated to allowing them to wed in their church if the union is against their doctorine, other couples have been excluded from certian churches since the start of religion. This is just asking for a legal right to be married. So, its not a religious question. Legaly, do we have a right to keep these people from wedding? If what two people down the street are doing in the privacy of their home threatens your marriage, you have bigger issues than gay marriage going on in your own home. Please please please understand this is not a question of belief but of rights and laws. Do we not have laws that state we have the right to be governed by laws that we set in place that are seperate from the chuch? dont forget your history of what happens when church and state are melded together. A couple that is together for years and years, grow old, should not be denied some of the rights that the couple next door have gotten in the same situation, just because they are two males instead of one. If your religion denies them wedding, cool! but dont force your beliefs or your religion on any one else. Was one of the famous generals that said, " I may not believe in what you believe in, but i will fight to the death for your right to believe in it". Once you start randomly taking away rights, it applys across the board. Dont forget that. and.. no.. im not gay. Not that it matters. Im an American, and a believer in the constitution of the United States of America. Our forfathers died for the right, to have a goverment free of the yoke of religion, while supporting freedom of religion. So that you can pray one way and she can pray annother and they can pray any way they want and that guy can stay home and watch foot ball and not pray. Lets not let their deaths, be in vain, by starting the rotten practice of enacting laws, according to our churches, and not, what is legal, fair and right. Thank you. Pocketz.
I believe the gay community is dancing around the real reason of this issue, MONEY. In this time of turmoil in our world it would be nice to keep some things sacred, like marriage. It's not enough that gays are becoming more and more accepted these days, but they are trying to shove their lifestyles down our throats. Shouting it from the rooftops, advertising it, adopting and bringing in innocent children into their lifestyles. The whole idea makes me sad for mankind.
Unfortunately, evangelicals like myself lost all moral credibility on opposing gay marriage because of our obstinate, stupid, moronic and ungodly opposition to civil rights for people of color using the BIBLE to rubber stamp our bigotry. So it is no wonder that now when we try to claim moral high ground on the issue people pay no attention to us. We didn't just shoot ourselves in the foot we blew our legs at the hip!
So, while I am opposed to the concept of gay marriage, I realize that voicing such opposition in light of past racist use of the Bible, makes my argument a non-starter. And I can't say that I really blame folks on the other side for seeing it that way.
However that does not change the fact that I am Scripturally bound to oppose gay marriage. But I also believe that GLBT persons should have equal protection under the law AND that it is always wrong to persecute and discriminate against folks in any society based on their sexual preference/gender. Jesus said to love our neighbors as ourselves, and I can love the person while not approving of the lifestyle.
I was approached by a woman in the IAH, now Bush international airport, back in the 80's. She was preaching the anti-abortion spiel ( maybe it was because I was reading a Stephan King book at the time?), anyway I was "yeah, yeah your right" , trying to end the encounter. But NOOO she had to whip out the pic's, I suddenly felt the need to check on the flight and visit the mens room.
Jesus never accepted sin and still doesn't today. He forgave the prostitute in John 8:1-11, but told her to "Go and sin no more." He says the same thing to homosexuals. Don't get "love" and "acceptance" mixed up. They are not the same thing. Jesus was not and is not a man of tolerance as the homosexual community and others supporting the homosexual lifestyle try to portray him to be.
Amen aubrey. People are as comfortable being bigoted against glbt people as they used to be about African-Americans and justify it with the same damn weapon - the bible. WWJD? Not be a gay-basher, that's for sure. He was all about LOVE and ACCEPTANCE, remember people?
I'm probably gonna catch a lot of flack for that comment but it just made me so mad to see those numbers that my fingers went flying and there's no "take it back button" (like I'd want to anyways).
People are people and they love who they love - there is no right or wrong in consensual relationships between adults.
I'm straight but I have family members who are not and I'm tired of see them hurt by this stupid stupid stupid debate.
oh good lord, why on earth would anyone want to deny glbt people the right to be as happy and miserable as only marriage can make you?
get a life people - if they want to get married, let them. it's no skin off your nose, it's no threat to marriage. straight people will still be married, it will never be legal to marry an animal.
quit legislating how people want to live their lives - keep your religion and your religious fervor to yourselves and stop trying to shove what you think is moral down everybody's throats.
gay people will have the right to marry in our lifetimes and it won't hurt you one little bit.

Our founding fathers would not envision that sodomizers would be in the equation of "All Men".

So adultery is OK, too? I can't wait to hear how you think Jesus would justify this?

Gay folks should be able to experience divorce just as the straight folk do.
