This whole thing is just wasting taxpayer dollars. Ratcliff got off light, him and tyler (name not capped purpose) (hes not worth the effort) must have been in the back room of the d.a.'s office giving each other favors of the adult kind. Here is the real deal Ratcliff was guilty, tyler wants to make an example out of someone. All he has that is piling up may fall over on him. Whether or not if the City officials did anything wrong which they probley did not, it most likely did not affect the outcome of the Ratcliff trial. Please tyler stop the witch hunt before you break the county of all its dollars for something not worth the time and effort your putting into it. Go after the drug dealers and theives and put the thugs in jail and make what your doing worth wild. BTW I did not vote for tyler and will not vote for him if he runs for relection.
April 3, 2009 at 8:55 p.m.can we ship all of them to another city ?
April 3, 2009 at 8:38 p.m.3rdParty, these actions might need to be brought to light - in their own trial. But not as a part of this one.
You pose a very interesting thought. The City should have a right to protect confidential documents. Don't the newly elected officials have to sign some sort of disclosure document that is legally binding? I certainly hope that they do.
And who is to judge whether or not something is considered illegal or a crime? The Official? That is why they should run information or concerns by the City Attorney (remember when we had one?) before they skip protocol.
I will also like to hear the ruling on this issue. I also would like to know whether or not Mr. Hagan committed a crime. I heard him admit to committing (under oath) what I thought was a crime.
April 3, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.BeenHere,
If the city council has been making decisions out of the public eye and involving themselves (city attorney, mayor, police chief and others) in actions outside the scope of their authority, these actions need to be brought to light.
I thought the testimony regarding the city's motion to protect (assert attorney client priviledge) is very interesting. If my uneducated (legal wise) mind understood what was being said a corporation (which the city is) has the "right" to maintain confidential information even if the information was used to commit or assist in the commiting of a crime. I am very interested as to how the Judge is going to rule on this as it sounds like a bunch of attorney's got together and had "law" enacted to protect the guilty rather then the innocent. Tyler reference to "whistle blower" provisions was right on target in this situation, if indeed what appears to have taken place actually did.
Tyler being re-elected, we will just have to wait and see.
April 3, 2009 at 7:10 p.m.3rdParty,
I too heard most of the testimony (as my job allowed me to peek in when I could). What does any "other city business conducted" have to do with this trial? Maybe Mr. Tyler is just on a fishing expedition as I suspect he is.
And as far as Mr. Tyler running for any office in this town and winning the position, PLEASE!! I'd sure count him out. Mr. Tyler has displayed his disdain about our City and the residents over and over again.
VBB, I think you are correct that this trial will indeed be a Pandora's Box. After reading the PDF files of the motion to quash, I am shocked over how Mr. Tyler performed Official Oppression on Chief Ure. But how he got away with it is beyond me.
April 3, 2009 at 6:51 p.m.Shady sh-t has been going on in Victoria since I can remember. This may be the key that opens Pandoras Box.
April 3, 2009 at 5:38 p.m.I doubt it will ever be over as both sides have dug in so deep, regardless of the verdict, it will not be accepted by some.
From what I observed listening to most of the testimony presented to the judge regarding the defense and city motions earlier this week, we may be seeing just the tip of the iceberg regarding problems in the city government.
I would not jump to the conclusion that Tyler will be defeated in next election as there is a possibility the Ure trial will bring out some other facts regarding how city business has been conducted.
Should be interesting.
April 3, 2009 at 5:30 p.m.I chose one year, because Tyler will be up for re-elcetion. Once he's defeated and disappears from the local scene, the mess, the misery and the horrible effect he's had on Victoria's reputation will finally fade away.
