The Volt, as I understand it uses the gasoline to recharge the battery unlike my 2007 Prius which actually uses gasoline when you are driving over 35 mph…I heard the CEO of GMC say it takes about eight hours to completely charge the car from a discharge status…The CEO went on to say that they expect to sell about 10,000 of the $40,000- $7,500 rebate car…..My battery is supposed to last eight years at a replacement cost of $5,000 but in the year 2014 someone is going to get a really good deal on a Toyota Prius.:-)
On a limited income $40K for a car is way out of line. Mine may be a clunker by government standards, but it is paid for. Also the comment does not indicate how much it costs to buy a new battery nor the cost to dispose of them. Hubby works for several Toyota dealers -- the long term costs are unbelievable for the hybrids with batteries.
It sems to be a little misleading. First of all, the car is ELECTRIC. It should say: "230 miles per charge" unless it's a hybrid. And then, how many gallons of gas does it hold? That's never mentioned. You take that car on a long trip and how long does it take to charge? Time lost finding a place to charge the car. So, stay within it's limit.

August 12, 2009 at 10:25 a.m.From what I read yesterday, the car holds 6-7 gal., at 50 miles per gal., and was not an out of town car.
August 12, 2009 at 10:24 a.m.Still wondering about 230 mpg. My lawnmower don't even get that kinda of mileage
