  • Joethejerk, the Hispanic community needs to stand together & protest the treatment of Mexicans in MEXICO, we Americans have no control over how their country is run & how their people are treated. YOU need to hold the proper people accountable & it is not US.

  • Remember The Alamo!!!!!!

    July 26, 2009 at 8:54 p.m.
  • Joethejerk is even publicly stating "more laws need to be broken" & yet his post still remains....

    July 26, 2009 at 8:50 p.m.
  • Somebody is sitting at their computer voting "yes" over and over again as fast as they can type. This poll is hardly accurate.

    July 26, 2009 at 8:49 p.m.
  • I have now reported Joethejerks anti American rant 3 times & yet it remains. Who is the post police today?

    July 26, 2009 at 8:48 p.m.
  • I didn't remove my comments. Wow that last one was removed immediately & all I said was Joethejerk can call us IDIOTS & our children ignorant & his doesn't get deleted, but mine does for not saying anything close to what he said.

  • this poll is a joke. remember in the recount in minnesota, there were more recounted votes in some precincts that voted for franken than were even registered to vote in that precinct. i agree with imagine in the other poll.

    July 26, 2009 at 8:41 p.m.
  • I believe most people feel for these people as humans.Especially the children who did not chose to be placed into the situation.
But as with any other tragedy, lets move on.
We don't have weekly articles on those who died in 9/11 or during the recent hurricanes. Or on those Americans who give their lives to protect ours--soldiers, police, firefighters, border patrol.

Besides the report stated "She is the only family member of anyone who died who returns each year to the makeshift memorial to honor the tragedy on its anniversary." So who would the memorial serve?

    July 26, 2009 at 8:36 p.m.
  • Joe,

! "They flee their country in search of a better, safer life for their children. They have it so bad in their country that they are willing to chance death in order to give their children a chance."

Enough said, the rest of your post is just a rant.

    July 26, 2009 at 8:15 p.m.
  • I'll tell ya what Joethejerk, to show you I am a fair person, I will agree to give y'all back California.

    July 26, 2009 at 8:12 p.m.
  • I can't believe that all these White people could have
    1. come to this country illegally
    2. Befriend, raped and murdered Native Americans, forcing them to flee to Mexico
    3. Enslaving Black humans who with the Mexicans built this country
... think they have the right to spew trash out of their mouths and play "racial dictator of America"

These White people think that they are so smart, as to, if they keep saying these lies people will actually believe them. Saying they were here first or to say that a dead drug dealer is the same as a dead family fleeing a countRy for the safety of their family.
    BIG DIFFERENCE IDIOTS!
Yes White people! Keep telling your lies, because your children are the only ones ignorant enough to believe them.
These Mexicans who died were CHILDREN, MOTHERS, FATHERS, HUMANS!!!!! They flee their country in search of a better, safer life for their children. They have it so bad in their country that they are willing to chance death in order to give their children a chance. Stop and think, how bad would something have to be that a mother would put her child’s life at risk... for a risk to be this great!
You don't hear these kind of racial remarks being made about black people anymore. America still has a long ways to go. And until The Hispanic community realizes that they have to stand up and stand together for their right and the rights of the Mexicans, from where their cultural heritage derives, other races all over America will think they have the right to down talk them, and it not be seen as racist remarks. They are humans and their children deserve the same chance our children do.

A DEAD MEXICAN BABY is the same as A DRUGDEALER!!???
    RACIST!
This reminds me of some of the struggles African Americans had to overcome. Most of the prominent Black people who made a huge difference in the movement for equality, had to break laws.

This makes me wonder "maybe more laws need to be broken?"

and more on the Ignorance of your children beliEving your lies yes the ony reason the votes are showing in favor of the memorial is because all the racist can vote more thaN once... And Chose Not To. RIGHT YAH SURE! Give America a break

    July 26, 2009 at 7:55 p.m.
  • Me too, but it seems to me, that either..

    1. Someone that feels strongly about a YES vote is running a bot, you know, why we had to type in the characters before we posted on the previous version of this site, a bot can't do that.

Or 2. someone somewhere has alerted there friends on the interwebs,to further there agenda, and they are voting YES over and over again.

    July 26, 2009 at 7:09 p.m.
  • legion357...everytime I come to this particular posting..I have to vote...so, maybe that is how the votes are adding up so fast...

    but, itsmyopiniononly

    July 26, 2009 at 7:05 p.m.
  • now 5470, something strange is going on, once they pass the total population, we will all know the poll is BS.

Are there that many people that visit the VA website? In two days? 5434, dang that should really increase the fee for having a add on this site, talk about internet traffic, 200 in 6 minutes?, Your up there with google and Yahoo.

    July 26, 2009 at 7:03 p.m.
  • oops....I meant....I do not believe the memorial should be constructed...

and I even proofed it before I posted it..lol
    sorry..

  • I48, yes they are human beings. They are human beings that did something illegal which in turn caused their death. Do you think a memorial should be built because a rapist contracted aids during an attack. Bleeding hearts because he died from something he did illegally? No you wouldn't, so why do this? I know many many spanish, mexican and cuban legal residents. They fought to come to America and they earned my respect for following the law. They are also very proud of their accomplishments. They worked hard to get here leaglly and are enjoying a wonderful life, which I am happy to share with law abiding "human beings". They realize that if you want to be a part of this country you have to follow certain rules.

    July 26, 2009 at 6:59 p.m.
  • 5434 total votes, 231 more in six minutes, hmm.

    July 26, 2009 at 6:58 p.m.
  • Well ,my vote was NO! I do not believe the memorial should NOT be constructed...UNLESS, the illegals that are here want to put it there since they can get the money that US citizens can't...They get everything free while we work our tails off, so let them put it up..IN Mexico! No, I am sorry they lost their lives, but they knew when they came here, they were doing something illegal. So,no memorial site needed here...it could cause more accidents by people who are driving by and trying to figure out what the memorial is. If Victoria wants to memorialize someone, how about our Military people who fight to keep our country safe! Now, they are my TRUE HEROES..
    but, Itsmyopinionly.

    July 26, 2009 at 6:53 p.m.
  • 5203 total votes, hmm sounds like the LBJ senatorial campaign. Good old ballot box 13

    July 26, 2009 at 6:39 p.m.
  • The founder of Victoria, Don Martin DeLeon, doesn't even have a permanent memorial. It's a disgrace and a slap in the face to our Mexican heritage.

    July 26, 2009 at 6:38 p.m.
  • Dang, wonder if my old bot will work on the VA site, it is obvious that around 300 votes where cast YES, in about 2 minutes.

    July 26, 2009 at 6:36 p.m.
  • ILLEGALS ARE HUMAN BEINGS. Just because their not Americans doesn't mean they are any less better than us. It's not about if they are bad or good or if they slave for only $4 an hour to try and support their family. LIVES WERE LOST. Humans were killed. The love of many will grow cold....from the Bible look it up.

    July 26, 2009 at 6:16 p.m.
  • This poll really doesn't mean much since you can vote as many times as you want.

    July 26, 2009 at 5:33 p.m.
  • since when do we put up memorials to people that broke the law? not just that, but are putting an economic burden on us we cant afford, the same reason California is broke, imagine how much money they would have if they didnt have to support all the illegals.

    July 26, 2009 at 4:56 p.m.
  • Sooo Victoria (not as a whole, you know who I am talking about) supports illegal immigration? Of course they would, illegals run their ranches and buisnesses and work for $4 an hour. Who cares if they kill people (Resteraunt incident), live off of our taxes, or rape and burglarize the legal citizens of Victoria. The cows must be fed and the mexican food cooked. SO why not have a memorial dedicated to the loss of ranch workers for Victorias rich?

    July 26, 2009 at 3:30 p.m.
  • I would support plans to build a memorial honoring US Border Patrol Officers murdered while in the line of duty, but never this one.

    July 26, 2009 at 2:45 p.m.
  • I don't even like the roadside crosses memorializing tragic traffic accidents. We certainly don't need a memorial for the tragic deaths along our highway. There is no point. People can memorialize their late loved ones at cemeteries.

    July 26, 2009 at 2:42 p.m.
  • Once again here we are with just One OF THE DUMBEST polls that the ADVOCATE has come up with. Now for the last time I HOPE, put this to rest and leave it ALONE. I am so tired of hearing about this. This seems to be all this paper cares about. I will make it my goal to find a way to make sure this paper changes its views regarding NEWS. I have seem better reporting from a high school columnist. There are other important things in this town to write about such as Companies leaving the Victoria area. 1. Weatherford 2. Tornado Trucking 3 Schlumberger 4. Possibly Baker Oiltools next and more. And can you please tell me WHAT the railRoad will bring to Victoria. We are not a major hub of any kind other than the Vitoria Barge canal and that I really do not see bringing much in Rail to the Victoria revenue.

    July 26, 2009 at 2:21 p.m.
  • If we memorialize these illegals why not do the same for others who died doing illegal activities? Let's memorialize the people who died in drug and/or gang related activites or the ones who died running from the police doing illegal activities or the ones who shot their families and then killed themselves!!! This memorial is the dumbest thing I ever heard!! What a travesty on the legal citizens of this country!! If you want to make memorial, I agree with the commentor who said put it on the border to show others who try to come here illegaly the consequences of what could happen if you try to come here by breaking the law!!!

    July 26, 2009 at 2:09 p.m.
  • NO!!!!!!!!!! WHY HONOR THESE PEOPLE WHO WERE HERE ILLEGALLY, THEY WERE BREAKING THE LAW!!!!!

    July 26, 2009 at 12:03 p.m.
  • A memorial could be put at/near the border

showing how many illegal aliens have

lost their lives trying to come in illegally.

Why monumentize only a small group? consider the

hundreds/or more that have died trying to come into America illegally, not just from Mexico???

Should there also be a monument showing

how many have died using drugs/smuggling drugs

    illegally into America?

    Hmmmmmmmmm????

    July 26, 2009 at 10:44 a.m.
  • And they are still losing the battle...

    July 26, 2009 at 10:44 a.m.
  • I too feel bad for the loss of life but I feel the construction of a memorial would be an invitation for illegals to visit the site.

    July 26, 2009 at 9:16 a.m.
  • I agree wholeheartedly. These people were here by their own choosing or a choice made by their parent.

    July 26, 2009 at 7:23 a.m.
  • Trust me, I feel bad for these people that lost their lives, but this would be like rewarding someone for doing something illegal. I don't believe they deserve a memorial for breaking the law.
