I just saw on the news personal calls on company cell phones are subject to taxation. Could cost $100 + a year to employee. I wonder how they are going to weed out personal calls from business calls? I have a personal cell & a business cell & I use them accordingly.
Come on now! I thought we had this last election because everyone wanted change. But now no one wants to pay for all this crap. Well neither do I, but if we are going to have it then we damn sure need to pay for it now rather then sluff it off on the next generation - Hell let's just go out and steal the money because that's what we are doing.
Actually, I was making a point. Often people who don't consume/use the items in question don't care if taxes are raised, but when you hit close to home they get riled up. If we let them tax us into submission, where will they stop? And as far as someone needing to pay for health insurance...I agree...the people who want/need it should pay for it. I don't agree with forcing the "village" to pay for a few, especially when we can't use them as a deduction.
When I looked at this proposal it included sugar, and products high in sugar like candy, cakes, pies, cookies, and etc. One thing is for sure, someone is going to have to pay for this program.
I'm sure I'm going to cause a big controversy by saying this, but I support taxes on these things. And why not? They're all luxury items, not something you HAVE to have. And, all can cause some health problems in the long run. I know, not for everybody. But, we definitely have a problem with our health care system the way it is right now. Maybe kids could keep off the pounds a little earlier in life, if mom and dad opted for less expensive and sugary items than soda. (And yes, I know, Kool-Aid probably isn't that great either.) And having a new source of income to help pay for health care for those with or without insurance would be nice. Even if it was only a penny per purchase of each item, it wouldn't break the bank of most consumers, since we've been seeing a rise in the prices of all of these products anyways. And, maybe it would help someone out in our great nation.

I remember President Bush the first saying the SAME thing. Didn't do a lot of good. He reneged and it cost him a good job.
