Addie ,I knew I was going to hear that one.And I am ready for it. I don't want to carry a gun in your place of business, Just in your dagnabbed parking lot. But as in the military a good slogan to follow "DON'T ASK ,DON'T TELL"
You stated, "I would not be so opposed to this legislation if the criteria for gun ownership were a bit stronger. Selling a weapon of any sort to someone who is not educated to use it is setting the stage for accidents, violence, and misuse."
In this statement you could substitute any number of things for the words "guns", and "weapon"....i.e. "cars", "gasoline", "butcher knives", "meat cleavers", "baseball bats", "motorcycles", etc.....
Weapons do not kill people, people kill people. Anything can be misused or abused. We have laws in place, if people misuse guns, the laws apply.
I was taught to shoot a gun when I was 6 years old, was raised around guns, and taught to respect them.
Where are the rights of the business owner to decide what comes on their property? If a business owner doesn't want employees to have weapons on business property, leave them at home. I'm sure there are plenty of non-gun toting job applicants who would love to have your job.
NO you can't carry a gun to work ,but at least you have protection going to work and on the way home. As as far as responsible gun ownership. I do belive if you check, drive bys, murders and gun fights on the border are not done by Licensed consealed handgun owners. But by lawless criminals who have obtained their guns illeagly and could care less about the law. Also we(licensed handgun carriers) do have training and are qualified with the weapon we carry. We are not nuts or radical extremist . We are your friends and neighbors, the quite majority, Just a person who feels we do need some protection in this day and age.
What good is a gun going to do someone in their car at work? In reality it just seems as though we are giving more people an excuse to carry weapons. I would not be so opposed to this legislation if the criteria for gun ownership were a bit stronger. Selling a weapon of any sort to someone who is not educated to use it is setting the stage for accidents, violence, and misuse. Responsible gun ownership is key but where do you draw the line at what is and isn't responsible?
Reductio ad absurdum, why don't just disarm EVERYBODY - disband the police and military, destroy all our weapons, and make the entire country a "free fire zone" for any and all of the world's criminal predators?
When do responsible people begin to answer in kind the anti-gunners? When do we begin suing when threatened, assaulted, robbed, raped, wounded, or killed in a place made by its proprietors a killing ground by prohibition of weapons and self-defense? When do we demand (by refusing to listen or patronize) that places we go recognize our right to self-protection? When do we stop listening to or readying news media who refuse to tell news of persons successfully defending themselves with guns - that while blazoning each new instance of their killing ground creation having succeeded?
The status quo where this matter is concerned is ridiculous in every sense of the word. The society and nation's government and ideologue-crazed factions create a national killing ground, then herds us into it like sheep to the slaughter and blames those who protest for what happens.
Hell, it sounds like the government and its sycophant ideologues tactics on the border with Mexico.
