  • Who's lego?

    May 10, 2009 at 10:47 p.m.
  • Lego: Gotta hand it to you, as you have made good points. However, you are mistaken if you think I have not accepted the election results. Accepted them - yes. Like them - no, and I don't have to like them. I will keep my stance and allow you yours.

After all, you need this time to celebrate...as I recall, not too long ago, you were knocked on your @$$ with the whole Stevie Tyler sitch, yes?

Okay - so, this one is yours...enjoy. Good day to you ;-)

  • LOL now you are the funny one, it's Mr. not "ma'am".

You know, you want me to let it go, but you yourself are the one that keeps it going.

I admire Mr Martinez, he ran a good campaign. He has done a great job at VC.

I just cannot understand why you cannot accept the choice of the electorate. Why you at first claim voter apathy and voter ignorance, the resort to doing the one thing Mr. Martinez did not do in his campaign, slewing insults and more or less acting like a child that did not get his way and now is mad.

Perhaps you can change your username from HereNnow to MoreNlater.

    Good day.

  • Now, now - "lego of your ego......er......eggo"

    IOW, quit your crying already.

(oh...and the avatar stays. it is only right and the least i can do, as it is an accurate representation of hagan and his haganeers) DEAL WITH IT!

    Good day, ma'am...

    May 10, 2009 at 6:17 p.m.
  • Oh HereNnow , since you are being snide with your remarks, all I have to say is.... scoreboard, look and see who won again.

    Enough said.

    May 10, 2009 at 6:03 p.m.
  • LOL if that's the way you interpreted it , that's your business.

The election is over, get over it.

    May 10, 2009 at 6:01 p.m.
  • Lego: This is a first - and gosh darn if it hasn't been the worst of attacks!! as I have never been compared to Hagan...until today!!

(so that you "get it"....."irrelevant excuses" = Hagan) GOT IT? GOOD!

    May 10, 2009 at 5:40 p.m.
  • And you Sir/ Madam are only making excuses. Irrelevant excuses, might I add.

You might want to change your avatar now.

  • HereNnow

May 15th 2004, ya know the election where Mr. Armstrong won the Mayors race.... voter turn out 10.7%. So I guess by your logic, Mr. Armstrong should not be the Mayor, after all the voter turnout was lower in the 2004 election than the 2009 election.

  • Austin mayoral election yesterday included former State Comptroller and only 13 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the race. Virtually same percent as Victoria.

  • lego357: You are welcome. Despite the uncertainty it would sink in, I know you could always use some insight.

My final note to you - IT IS ALL RELEVANT.

    May 10, 2009 at 3:23 p.m.
  • Thanks for your insight HereNnow.

Since you did not get the meaning of the old saying in my last post....

The election is over, the results are in, all the "if more people would have voted" ect. are now moot points.

    May 10, 2009 at 1:35 p.m.
  • Posted by chriscobler: "In Victoria, only 12 percent turnout. Why don't more people vote in local elections? Which is worse? Ignorance or apathy?"

(IMO - What is real, is our apathy for leg357's ignorance...eh, that's funny!)

Seriously, the ignorance of those who believe that every District was supported by all those who reside within them, keeps fueling the flame of indifference.

Thus = Ignorance and apathy are both to blame.

  • When IF's and BUT's are candy and nuts, we'll all have a merry Christmas.

    May 10, 2009 at 12:50 p.m.
  • Well KCi,

Take a look at the Soliz/Neitsch race - 23 out of 24 ballot boxes had Neitsch as the winner but the last one made the difference. If more people had voted, the outcome in the Martinez.Hagan race could certainly have been different

    May 10, 2009 at 12:42 p.m.
  • ONLY 4,507 votes were cast = ONLY 12% of registered voters actually voted...of nearly 30,000+ registered to vote.

You have missed the point of "INDIFFERENCE" - period.

Take time and let that sink in...come back later.

    May 10, 2009 at 12:41 p.m.
  • HereNnow...what makes you think that, if the turnout has been much higher, the result would have been different? Hagan won with 58% of the vote. Do you think that only Martinez supporters stayed home and did not cast their ballot?

    May 10, 2009 at 12:28 p.m.
  • "iCK": Are you friggin' kidding me!! Martinez was not rejected by the voters - just the opposite - he was subjected to the NON-VOTERS indifference.

Even George Matthews, the Victoria County Elections Administrator, wished there was a way to encourage people to exercise their right to vote.

...straight from the horses mouth,.... "I wish I could give money away to make them vote, but I do not (have it). The democratic process is only served by participation," Matthews said.

The entire district did NOT vote...let alone half the registered voters within the city.

Maybe you just aren't able to comprehend?....yeah, I'm convinced.

    May 10, 2009 at 11:31 a.m.
  • Yes, definitely...James Martinez for mayor. Let the whole town have a chance at rejecting him, not just one district! If he can't even win the district he lives in, what makes you think the rest of the city of Victoria wants him??

    May 10, 2009 at 11:14 a.m.
  • District 4 race = Definite shocker!.....or was it, considering that the incredible low voter turnout is what it is, and was expected.

I would venture to say that there are many, MANY people who wished they had taken the time to vote. Too late...

However, the lack of interest in our local government shows exactly how little faith the community has in it. That, or people are more indifferent than ever before.....as this is merely a reflection of how the community suffers from the absence of value.

  • Make no mistake about it, this was a historical election in many regards. It is surprising to me only to the extent that it has taken so long for the electorate to truly give voice to their independence. The Old Guard surely must see this election as the political equivalent to the Normandy Landings during WWII. Continuing the WWII metaphor, the Eastern Front is Tyler and Judge Williams is Stalingrad. Let's just see if this story plays out like history.

    May 10, 2009 at 10:22 a.m.
  • lol... Big J we teased james about that one Mayor!

    May 10, 2009 at 10:04 a.m.
  • The only result that surprised me was that David Hagan won by such a margin, based on all the negative posts i've read over the past days before the election. Personally, I'm glad of the results of the propositions.
