The National Day of Prayer, does not force or support any religion. Why some individuals may not believe in the power of prayer, many do and it gives these individuals a day of unification.
I rarely pray for assitance or intervention from the creator, who I call God. Many individuals may call the creator by other names. And some may reject that there is an intelligent design in the universe, which I call God. My prayers are usually for the blessings the creator provide me each day. I observed the news coverage of it the day after. I don't pray, because I have nothing to pray to. I think everybody lets religion get them kooky and worked up, whether they believe in something or not. I don't get worked up over it, but if you ask me how I feel I will tell you that I doubt the existence of all supernatural phenomena. I don't believe in the Boogie Man, the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, Zeus, Aphrodite, Dionysus, or any of those other 2000 year old comic book characters either.
The man who is preaching loudly on the National Day of Prayer maybe offending to those non-believers. Here in America, we were founded on Christian Principles. I'd rather hear that man preach loudly than seeing some soldiers in a communist country shoot someone for practicing their religious beliefs either by praying in public or praying in their homes reading their bibles. In the USA we are lucky to have our freedoms to worship. Try doing that in the former USSR or China.

This nation was founded on Christian principles. When I was in school about 30 yrs ago, we had invocation at footballs games and our daily moment of silence during the morning announcements. When the non-believers took prayer out of school, the trouble with school violance began. When I was in high school, there were practically no school shooting like Columbine. These days the schools are not allowed to have Christmas parties so that they wouldn't offend the politically correct crowd. I am tired of the secularism that is in today's society. I am also tired of these corporate american retail giants such as Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Lowe's calling Christmas decorations Holiday decorations, trees, etc. Since public prayer has been basically outlawed, our country is going downhill. Remember 9/11. This was a terrorist attack that attacked our nation. I remember that day very well, after work going to my neighborhood church for a prayer service that brought tears to my eyes. None of these terrorists were Christians.
During these tough times us CHRISTIANS ought to pray when we want, where we want. If those who oppose prayer don't like it, they can just walk away and do their own thing. My wife and I pray at least 3 times a day, before each meal, no matter where we are, even in public.

Most of us will make it to 75 or 80 and be lucky to get there. But even 120 years doesn’t stack up to eternity! Everyone has their own beliefs, mine are in God! God is there when I need him, he listens to me, he comforts me, he uplifts me. He gave his son for me, that's quite a gift! I have never tried to force my religion on anyone, but I do enjoy sharing about it with others. If I can save someone simply by sharing, Praise God! If you're not interested, you're more than welcome to walk away, but that won't stop me from praying for you.

Going through these tough times, we all need to take time to pray everyday. I visited the prayer chapel of my church yesterday for prayers for this tough time of being jobless at this time. I've been thinking lately that the day for prayer is not just the national day of prayer for the year, but it's everyday. We all need our daily prayers.
I'd have to disagree with you on that point. But I would also have to agree. I'd disagree because it depends on the "one" that you are talking about. I'd agree because, thanks to the hard work of THE ONE, billions of people have been saved. I can see where you are coming from though, our companies don't pay us to pray. I can say from personal experience that it does pay to pray. Not necessarily in monetary terms, but the peace that God gives and the assurance that above all else, He is sovereign and will work everything together for the good. Prayer is not a cure-all for human suffering, it is simply a connection to God to keep you grounded in times of suffering. Think of it as a lighthouse in the storm, just because you see a lighthouse doesn't mean the storm is over and your ship is safe. It does remind you that there is Someone watching out for you. Prayer should be a refreshing experience, building yourself up in the faith. To many people see it as a plea for help. Yes, certain times we will ask for things in prayer, but that should not be the only time we seek God's face. Prayer should be an open communication with God, which is why the bible says "Pray without ceasing." You could also pray while you work, a modern take on "Pray without ceasing." :)
Wow, Aubrey...I'm glad that there were those millions praying. If you were the hard worker, I'm also glad that you have a job and are a good worker. I think that work and prayer get EVEN more done!

When the non-believers took prayer out of school, the trouble with school violance began. When I was in high school, there were practically no school shooting like Columbine. These days the schools are not allowed to have Christmas parties so that they wouldn't offend the politically correct crowd. I am tired of the secularism that is in today's society. I am also tired of these corporate american retail giants such as Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Lowe's calling Christmas decorations Holiday decorations, trees, etc. Since public prayer has been basically outlawed, our country is going downhill. Remember 9/11. This was a terrorist attack that attacked our nation. I remember that day very well, after work going to my neighborhood church for a prayer service that brought tears to my eyes. None of these terrorists were Christians.
During these tough times us CHRISTIANS ought to pray when we want, where we want. If those who oppose prayer don't like it, they can just walk away and do their own thing. My wife and I pray at least 3 times a day, before each meal, no matter where we are, even in public.

If the universe were merely a machine running on a scientific program, where did things like this come from?
God is so good that he doesn’t leave his natural creations as the only evidence of His awesome power. He takes people who are riddled with cancer, people who have months, weeks, even days to live, people whom the medical community has sadly given up on- and heals them. Not a trace of cancer, as though they had never battled the dreaded disease! The medical community cannot explain these phenomena. Let me repeat: the medical community cannot explain these phenomena! What, no scientific explanation? That is because the answer is spiritual! God healed the person!
Only a fool would deny His existence. Psalms 14:1 says that “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” It is my understanding that the word for fool in the original Greek means “insane”. So only a mentally unbalanced person would deny the existence of God! I have to tell you that, even before I was saved, there was just too much evidence of the existence of a higher power for me to deny His existence. I was one of these people who was like, I’m going to acknowledge God’s existence and try not to do anything that might upset Him too much, just in case He exists, just in case Heaven and hell are real…I can’t believe the people out there that are willing to risk it! I mean human life lasts, at the very very most, what, 115 years? I’m not sure how old the oldest person Willard Scott ever said happy birthday to was, but I doubt they were older than that. Even when people try to tell you all about super old people in the mountains of Tibet or whatever, its always that they live to be like 120. Whatever. Most of us will make it to 75 or 80 and be lucky to get there. But even 120 years doesn’t stack up to eternity! Only a crazy person would risk spending all of eternity in hell to deny God and do whatever they want for 75 to 120 years.

It doesn’t bother me one whit (or most other people for that matter) if you want to promote the joys and benefits of being a free thinker or atheist. I have never tried to force my religion on anyone, but I do enjoy sharing about it with others. If I can save someone simply by sharing, Praise God! If you're not interested, you're more than welcome to walk away, but that won't stop me from praying for you.

I visited the prayer chapel of my church yesterday for prayers for this tough time of being jobless at this time. I've been thinking lately that the day for prayer is not just the national day of prayer for the year, but it's everyday. We all need our daily prayers.

I'd agree because, thanks to the hard work of THE ONE, billions of people have been saved. I can see where you are coming from though, our companies don't pay us to pray. I can say from personal experience that it does pay to pray. Not necessarily in monetary terms, but the peace that God gives and the assurance that above all else, He is sovereign and will work everything together for the good. Prayer is not a cure-all for human suffering, it is simply a connection to God to keep you grounded in times of suffering. Think of it as a lighthouse in the storm, just because you see a lighthouse doesn't mean the storm is over and your ship is safe. It does remind you that there is Someone watching out for you. Prayer should be a refreshing experience, building yourself up in the faith. To many people see it as a plea for help. Yes, certain times we will ask for things in prayer, but that should not be the only time we seek God's face. Prayer should be an open communication with God, which is why the bible says "Pray without ceasing." You could also pray while you work, a modern take on "Pray without ceasing." :)
